Development, modeling and simulation of test equipment for subsea choke valves

2014

Masteroppgave i mekatronikk MAS 500 Universitetet i Agder 2014 As a step toward being more e_ective and to improve test procedures, GE Oil & Gas wants to develop a workshoptool to automate the testing of Choke Valves. The Choke Valve Workshop Tool (CVWT) main functionis to operate the Hydraulic Stepping Actuator automatically by providing controlled pressure pulses. Electricaland hydraulic equipment will have an interface allowing the test equipment to be connected and used on awide range of Choke Valves. Test results will be transferred and stored automatically based on current need. Adetailed description of the planned CVWT including a complete control system and a Human Machine Interface…

Can novel early non-invasive biomarkers of embryo quality be identified with time-lapse imaging to predict live birth?

2019

AbstractSTUDY QUESTIONCan time-lapse imaging systems make it possible to identify novel early non-invasive biomarkers to predict live birth?SUMMARY ANSWERFrom mostly high-grade embryos, out of 35 morphometric, morphologic and morphokinetic variables, only pronuclei (PN) position at time of PN juxtaposition and the absence of multinucleated blastomeres at the 2-cell stage (MNB2cell), were potentially associated with live birth.WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADYPrevious studies indicate that some kinetic markers may be predictive of blastocyst development and embryonic implantation. Certain teams have suggested including some of them in decisional algorithms for embryo transfers.STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATI…

Assessing infertility-related stress: The factor structure of the Fertility Problem Inventory in Italian couples undergoing infertility treatment

2015

The factor structure of the Fertility Problem Inventory (FPI) and its invariance across gender were examined in Italian couples undergoing infertility treatment. About 1000 subjects (both partners of 500 couples) completed two questionnaires prior to commencing infertility treatment at a private Clinic in Palermo, Italy. Confirmatory Factor Analysis demonstrated that the original factor structure of the FPI was partially confirmed. Two correlated factors (Infertility Life Domains and Importance of Parenthood) were obtained via a post hoc Exploratory Factor Analysis. Finally, the invariance of this factor structure across gender was confirmed. The study supported the relevance of two interre…

Probing the Merits of Different Event Parameters for the Identification of Light Charged Particles in CHIMERA CsI(Tl Detectors With Digital Pulse Sha…

2013

We investigated the merits of different event parameters in the identification of Light Charged Particles (LCPs) with CsI(Tl) scintillators read out by photodiodes at high incident energy (400 MeV/u). This investigation is made possible by digital signal processing the output signals. As in the conventional analogue case, the digitized signals allow the discrimination of light charged particles by computing the fast and slow components. In addition other identification parameters as the rise time of the output pulses of the CsI(Tl) come out nearly for free. Aim of this paper is the investigation of novel identification plots and the probe of their merits, in particular at relativistic energ…

What Students Think About Game-Themed CS1

2014

There has been rising academic interest in including computer game programming in CS1 curriculum during the past years, and many experience reports exist on the topic. Still, there is a need for knowledge on student reception, that is, how the students themselves view the game theme on a CS1 course. In this paper we review our CS1 course feedback from the years 2008–2013, of which three first years were carried out without games, while the latter three years part of our weekly assignments, plus a bigger course assignment, have been “game-themed”. We found that over 90 % found contextualization through games fun, motivating or rewarding in some other way. Less than 10%of the respondents have…

The experience of building and operating COMPASS RICH-1

2010

COMPASS RICH-1 is a large size gaseous Imaging Cherenkov Detector providing hadron identification in the range from 3 to 55 GeV/c, in the wide acceptance spectrometer of the COMPASS Experiment at CERN SPS. It uses a 3 m long C(4)F(10) radiator, a 21 m(2) large VUV mirror surface and two kinds of photon detectors: MAPMTs and MWPCs with CsI photocathodes, covering a total of 5.5 m(2). It is in operation since 2002 and its performance has increased in time thanks to progressive optimization and mostly to a major upgrade which was implemented in 2006. The main characteristics of COMPASS RICH-1 components are described and some specific aspects related to the radiator gas system, the mirror alig…

SELECTION OF THE BEST OOCYTES FOR INTRACYTOPLASMICSPERM INJECTION (ICSI) USING APOPTOTIC ANALYSIS OF CUMULUS CELLS

2015

Introduction: We studied the apoptosis rate of the cumulus cells of individual cumulus-oocyte complex (COC), to verify a relationship with clinical outcomes, in terms of pregnancy and implantation rates. Usually oocytes are selected using morphological criteria. We tried to verify if cumulus cell apoptotic rate could be used as molecular criteria in selecting oocytes with higher implantation potentiality (1;2). Materials and Methods: The study design consisted in two different trials: in the first, we investigated apoptosis rate in cumulus cells of the three selected oocytes, to be fertilized by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI); in a second trial, average apoptosis rate of the cumulu…

P–410 Comparison of the incidence of miscarriage rates in frozen versus fresh embryo transfers in IVF/ICSI cycles: a meta-analysis of Randomized Cont…

2021

Abstract Study question Is the incidence of miscarriage rates increased in frozen embryo transfer (ET) compared with fresh ET? Summary answer The frozen ET is not associated with an increased risk of miscarriage in comparison with fresh ET. What is known already Nowadays, the freeze-all policy has gained great popularity because it minimizes OHSS and it seems to improve the reproductive outcomes. This increase was possible thanks to progress in vitrification procedures. Nevertheless, some recent evidence suggests more caution on the wide use of elective frozen ET in a general IVF population for its possible effect on some pregnancy-related complications. Endometrial preparation schemes for …

Towards water operations of the future.

2018

Nowadays multiple use of “smart” word is provided in many fields including research. Sometimes it is a synonym for chic, elegant or straight. A smart water system is not the same as an elegant, glamorous or fashionable system. Instead it operates to fulfil the requirements of producing an acceptable product while keeping the energy and resource requirements at a minimum. However, while cost savings has up until recently been our primary aim of making water and wastewater operations more efficient, there is now a more pressing agenda of sustainability driving the smart agenda. The primary aim of developing our utilities into a higher level of smart is hence moving from a singular focus on co…
