The concept of cottage industry (kotiteollisuus) referred especially to rural craft practices. For the promotion of cottage industries, a state administrative organ and a network of cottage industry associations and schools were established. A sphere developed and monitored by specialists, cottage industry policies were planned as official committee work. However, the matter was usually addressed as ‘the idea of cottage industry’ (kotiteollisuusaate). The article reflects on the presence and scope of the discourses of Spanish nationalism in the mass culture through the study of Spanish cinema produced during the years of the Second Republic. From a theoretical perspective based on the latest theoretical developments on nationalism, and particularly those concerning the role of culture, the article seeks to place the cinema in the heart of the study of Spanish nation-building process in the first decades of the twentieth century. Abstract Pests had represented a major problem in agriculture for centuries, but the huge changes in the food chain around the late nineteenth century intensified their effects in a totally unprecedented way and many new chemical substances were introduced in the attempt to control them. In this paper I will focus on the implementation of hydrogen cyanide, a highly toxic pesticide which has not received particular consideration from researchers to date. I shall analyse the introduction of this pesticide in the Valencian Country and focus on the attention given to the safety of workers and consumers. Tutkin artikkelissani henkilö- ja verkostohistoriallisesta näkökulmasta antikvaarista kirjakauppaa, jota käytiin Helsingin yliopiston opiskelijoiden ja tutkijoiden muodostamissa akateemisissa verkostoissa. Minerva Oy oli 1800- ja 1900-luvun vaihteessa Helsingissä toiminut tieteellinen antikvaarinen kirjakauppa. Tarkastelen Minerva-osakeyhtiön historiaa 1890-luvulta 1910-luvulle sen piirissä toimineiden henkilöiden kautta hyödyntämällä kollektiivibiografista menetelmää. In this dissertation, I study the observance of holy days among the peasantry in the early modern province of Savo, located on the eastern periphery of the Swedish kingdom (today Eastern Finland). I examine the practices, norms and meanings related to the observance of holy days both within and outside the Church, and analyse the changes and continuities in the post-reformation period. As the main sources of the study, I use district court records and visitation records mainly from the period 1639–1712.
