In our research, context is defined as a situation a user has at hand. The focus in our study is on modelling contexts in cross-cultural communication environments. These environments can be physical, virtual or hybrid. Crosscultural communication environment – user – situation is the key triplet in our context research. In our paper we discuss context as a key to situation-specific computing. Tämän kvalitatiivisen tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää millaisia kokemuksia eteläpohjalaisilla johtajilla on monimuotoisuuden johtamisesta ja kulttuurienvälisestä viestinnästä monikulttuurisissa organisaatioissa. This paper examines whether male and female managers hold different opinion on women in managerial and higher level positions, depending on their different cultural background. Furthermore, the paper deals with managers’ perception of organizational readiness to accept women in managerial positions. The paper is looking at this aspect from a cultural perspective, by comparing France to Finland. The research is based on 16 interviews, 9 from France and 7 from Finland, with individuals in different managerial positions in 10 private companies located in both countries. The objective of this study was to find out if national culture impacts the phenomenon of power as it is found in teacher-student communication at the University of Jyväskylä. The aim of the study was to investigate intercultural adaptation of occupational immigrants to Finnish working life and culture and identify factors that support or hinder the adaptation process. Due to demographic changes in the society and the increasing number of foreigners in Finnish workplaces, the study of occupational immigration is a very contemporary topic.
