Nutriosomes, new phospholipid nanovesicles specifically designed for intestinal protection were developed by simultaneously loading a water-soluble dextrin (Nutriose® FM06) and a natural antioxidant (curcumin). Nutriosomes were easily fabricated in a one-step, organic solvent-free procedure. The stability and delivery performances of the vesicles were improved by adding hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. Abstract This study aimed to verify the applicability of the EN 1787 method for the detection of irradiation in herbal ingredients used in Plant Food Supplements (PFSs). In matrices such as herbs and spices the main limit of the method is the presence of intrinsic radicals responsible for spurious signals leading to complex ESR spectra. To overcome this limit, before ESR measurement a treatment with alcohol has been proposed (Delincee and Soika, 2002; Ahn et al., 2012, 2014). Spices are a popular food of plant origin, rich in various phytochemicals and recognized for their numerous properties. The aim of the study was to evaluate the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity, as well as the content of specialized metabolites, of aqueous extracts of three spice species––garlic (Allium sativum L.), ginger (Zingiber officinalle L.) and turmeric (Curcuma longa L.)––prepared by green extraction methods. Chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oil ofCurcuma leucorhizaRoxb

The essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation from the rhizomes and leaves of Curcuma leucorhiza Roxb. were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and GC/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) for the first time. A total of forty-nine compounds were identified in both oils. The main compounds in the rhizome and leaf oils were germacrone (9.6–19.7%), curdione (19.1–19.5%), camphor (7.2–8.1%), 1,8-cineole (4.0–7.4%), curzerene (3.0–5.7%), linalool (5.2–5.4%), neo-curdione (2.8–4.6%) and isoborneol (2.0–3.8%). Abstract The endophytic fungus Xylaria sp. was isolated from healthy leaves of Curcuma xanthorrhiza, collected on the island of Timor, Indonesia. Two new compounds (1 and 2), together with the known resacetophenone (3), were isolated and their structures were elucidated on the basis of comprehensive NMR and mass spectral analyses.
