Public-Private Partnership: Transaction Costs of Tendering
2016
Abstract What are the transaction costs of participating in a public-private partnership (PPP) tender? Prior research indicate that there is a significant amount of resources required. However, few researchers seem to measure transaction costs directly. The purpose of this paper is therefore to fill this knowledge gap by presenting estimated transaction costs from both public and private actors. The underlying approach for this research was a case study of a new primary school in Norway. This case was chosen because of the expedient access to detailed information of the tendering process. The main source of data was documents and estimated figures obtained from public and private actors inv…

Wertigkeit der Abradathistologie von Endometriumkarzinomen
2002
Objective: We compared immunohistological examination of endometrium biopsy specimen with the results of the immunohistological examination of tumor specimen to analyse the valence of this preoperative examination according to the clinico-pathological findings and overall-survival. Material and Method: Between 1985 and 1995 193 women were treated of an endometrial carcinoma at the University hospital Mainz. In this group we evaluated 41 patients with enough preoperative endometrial biopsy material for a retrospective immunohistochemical analysis and complete follow-up data. The materials from diagnostic curettage were stained and analysed for oestrogen and progesterone receptor status and f…
Noninvasive monitoring of polymer curing reactions by dielectrometry
2011
A microwave sensor system for the noninvasive monitoring of the curing process of a thermoset material placed inside a metallic mold is described. The microwave sensor is designed as an open-ended coaxial resonator with a curved surface adapted to the mold inner shape. The analysis of the microwave resonator comprises a recently developed method for deembedding the effect of coupling network in overcoupled resonators, so the range of permitted measurements encompass both low and high dielectric losses of polymeric materials. Results show that noninvasive, continuous monitoring of the microwave dielectric properties of the thermoset material can be performed in real time, allowing one to che…
Challenges for Adoption of e-Procurement
2013
In a society well on its way through a digital revolution, a number of new challenges are encountered, and when participating in electronic business, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) face specific challenges and issues. In this chapter an analysis of those challenges covering electronic procurement within public and private sectors (B2G, B2B) is provided, including a case study from electronic invoicing. Relevant factors for the use of electronic invoicing for SMEs in Europe are recognized, and requirements for a technical solution are identified. Starting from that, an architecture for the solution is derived. The solution is aligned with the initiatives working on that issue wit…
Granting Epicurean Wisdom at Rome: Exchange and Reciprocity in Lucretius' Didactic (DRN 1.921-950)
2018
In the first book of De Rerum Natura, Lucretius describes his didactic undertaking as a metaphorical process of gift exchange (1.50-53): the obscure and salvific precepts of Epicurean philosophy, skilfully arranged in hexameters, are said to be 'gifts' (dona) that the poet has prepared with loyal zeal (studio fideli). Such a suggestive depiction of Lucretius' relationship to the work's dedicatee, Gaius Memmius, seems to reflect a relevant functional pattern of De Rerum Natura as a coherent system of communication strategies, variously readapting social models and cultural traditions. The present paper employs the interpretative approach of gift theories – the thought-provoking theories elab…
Filodemo, Cicerone, Nepote: a proposito del contesto storico-culturale di Oec. Col. XXII.9-48
2018
Until recently, Philodemus’ treatise On Household Management (Περὶ οἰκονομίας, PHerc. 1424) has been mainly used as a source for the reconstruction of early Epicurean economic thought (especially of Metrodorus’ writing Περὶ πλούτου). Over the past few years, however, scholars have called attention to Philodemus’ creative (yet philosophically orthodox) readaptation of Epicurean ethical and social theories to the needs of contemporary Roman society. Following this scholarly line, the present paper reassesses a passage from On Household Management (col. XXII.9–48) which has so far been interpreted as an unoriginal repetition of Metrodorus’ arguments, and situates it in the cultural context of …
Insicurezza e sfiducia generalizzata. Rappresentazioni sociali e politiche pubbliche
2007
A Two-Sided Kingdom: A Sicily of Export and Urban Wheat Supply
2021
The Sicilian victualling system sought to guarantee both the subsistence of cities and the income of the great aristocratic landowners interested in the wheat market. A set of economic mechanisms, social practices, and political conflicts unfolded around the urban victualling offices, dealing with wheat and flour distribution, bread production, contracts for the procurement of supplies, and the price system of the mete, run by political elites. North-eastern Sicily was exclusively consumer, while the central-western area produced surpluses for the foreign market and for the rest of the island, including Palermo—the capital city—and Messina—a rich and hungry city—. The centralised office of …
Cure monitoring of catalysed cyanate ester resins
2000
The cure behaviour of two bisphenol A-based cyanate ester resins, AroCy B10 and B30, catalysed by copper acetylacetonate and nonylphenol was studied. For this purpose, differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) and rheological measurements were carried out at temperatures between 130 and 170 °C. The cyanate conversion profiles are fitted with a second-order rate law in the kinetically controlled regime where a good time–temperature superposition is attained. However, it is necessary to add an empirical kinetic term to give a good description of the entire range of curing. Simultaneously, times to gelation and vitrification have been determined by dynamic rheological measurements over the same…
