Nonlinearities in amoxycillin pharmacokinetics. II. Absorption studies in the rat.

1992

Most factors influencing amoxycillin oral absorption are, even today, unknown. Since many dosage schedules have been shown to lead to incomplete absorption, it would be desirable to find a suitable animal model where these factors could be studied in depth. In this paper, it is shown that, in the rat, plasma level curves obtained after oral doses of 7 and 28 mg kg-1 are poorly fitted using first-order absorption kinetics and that the best fit is obtained through the use of an input equation combining zero and first-order kinetics. In contrast, plasma level curves found after intraduodenal administration of amoxycillin solutions (7 mg kg-1) are well fitted by first-order input kinetics. It w…

A SELF-SIMILAR EXPANSION MODEL FOR USE IN SOLAR WIND TRANSIENT PROPAGATION STUDIES

2012

Since the advent of wide-angle imaging of the inner heliosphere, a plethora of techniques have been developed to investigate the three-dimensional structure and kinematics of solar wind transients, such as coronal mass ejections, from their signatures in single- and multi-spacecraft imaging observations. These techniques, which range from the highly complex and computationally intensive to methods based on simple curve fitting, all have their inherent advantages and limitations. In the analysis of single-spacecraft imaging observations, much use has been made of the fixed fitting (FPF) and harmonic mean fitting (HMF) techniques, in which the solar wind transient is considered to be a radial…

Error analysis of nuclear mass fits

2008

We discuss the least-square and linear-regression methods, which are relevant for a reliable determination of good nuclear-mass-model parameter sets and their errors. In this perspective, we define exact and inaccurate models and point out differences in using the standard error analyses for them. As an illustration, we use simple analytic models for nuclear binding energies and study the validity and errors of models' parameters, and uncertainties of its mass predictions. In particular, we show explicitly the influence of mass-number dependent weights on uncertainties of liquid-drop global parameters.

Novel algorithms for 3D surface point cloud boundary detection and edge reconstruction

2019

Abstract Tessellated surfaces generated from point clouds typically show inaccurate and jagged boundaries. This can lead to tolerance errors and problems such as machine judder if the model is used for ongoing manufacturing applications. This paper introduces a novel boundary point detection algorithm and spatial FFT-based filtering approach, which together allow for direct generation of low noise tessellated surfaces from point cloud data, which are not based on pre-defined threshold values. Existing detection techniques are optimized to detect points belonging to sharp edges and creases. The new algorithm is targeted at the detection of boundary points and it is able to do this better tha…

On the semi-automatic retrieval of biophysical parameters based on spectral index optimization

2014

Abstract: Regression models based on spectral indices are typically empirical formulae enabling the mapping of biophysical parameters derived from Earth Observation (EO) data. Due to its empirical nature, it remains nevertheless uncertain to what extent a selected regression model is the most appropriate one, until all band combinations and curve fitting functions are assessed. This paper describes the application of a Spectral Index (SI) assessment toolbox in the Automated Radiative Transfer Models Operator (ARTMO) package. ARTMO enables semi-automatic retrieval and mapping of biophysical parameters from optical remote sensing observations. The SI toolbox facilitates the assessment of biop…

Singularities of rational Bézier curves

2001

We prove that if an nth degree rational Bezier curve has a singular point, then it belongs to the two (n − 1)th degree rational Bezier curves defined in the (n − 1)th step of the de Casteljau algorithm. Moreover, both curves are tangent at the singular point. A procedure to construct Bezier curves with singularities of any order is given.  2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Glow Rate Technique for Spectroscopy of Complex Thermostimulated Relaxation Processes

1996

The glow rate technique (GRT) developed for the analysis of complex trap spectra, is the extension of the known heating rate method to the full glow curve. It is shown that using two glow curves measured at different heating rate constants, a special mean activation energy of simultaneously emptied traps can be obtained as a function of temperature or emitted light sum to a good approximation. Expressions have been derived for the calculation of the mean activation energy function from data measured using a linear, logarithmic or a hyperbolic heating mode. Theoretical expressions for the mean activation energy function have been obtained and discussed for arbitrary trap distribution functio…

Voice and Culture: A Prospect Theory Approach

2014

The present study examines the congruence of individuals' minimum preferred amounts of voice with the prospect theory value function across nine countries. Accounting for previously ignored minimum preferred amounts of voice and actual voice amounts integral to testing the steepness of gain and loss functions explicated in prospect theory, we use curve fitting to show that ratings of procedural justice fit prospect theory's value function specifically. Further, we investigate the form of this function across nine countries that range in power distance. Results suggest that the form of the value function is congruent with prospect theory, showing an S-shaped curve that is steeper in the loss…

Mathematical Modeling and Parameters Estimation of Car Crash Using Eigensystem Realization Algorithm and Curve-Fitting Approaches

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/262196 Open Access An eigensystem realization algorithm (ERA) approach for estimating the structural system matrices is proposed in this paper using the measurements of acceleration data available from the real crash test. A mathematical model that represents the real vehicle frontal crash scenario is presented. The model's structure is a double-spring-mass-damper system, whereby the front mass represents the vehicle-chassis and the rear mass represents the passenger compartment. The physical parameters of the model are estimated using cu…
