Influence of sample pan on the thermal behaviour of KSCN measured with TG

2003

Abstract In this study, the influence of the sample pan on the thermal behaviour of potassium thiocyanate (KSCN) was investigated. The measurements were performed with thermogravimetry (TG) and the two sample pans used were a platinum pan and a ceramic crucible. The samples were heated to 400–950 °C and the thermal products were identified by powder diffraction. The thermal behaviour of KSCN was found to be dependent on the sample pan used. With the platinum sample pan KSCN reacted in the first step into a mixture of K 2 SO 4 and potassium tetracyanoplatinate (K 2 Pt(CN) 4 ). In the second step, the mixture reacted further to pure K 2 SO 4 . In the ceramic sample crucible, however, the reac…

Polycatenane systems from Co(II) and trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene (bpe). Synthesis and structure of Co(bpe)2(NCS)2·CH3OH, [Co(bpe)2(H2O)2](ClO4)2·2…

2001

Three new compounds of formulae Co(bpe)2(NCS)2·CH3OH, 1, [Co(bpe)2(H2O)2](ClO4)2·2CH3OH, 2 and [Co(bpe)2(H2O)2(CH3OH)2](ClO4)2·bpe·H2O, 3, [bpe =  trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene] have been synthesised and characterised by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The metal environment in 1–3 is distorted octahedral. Compound 1 is a polycatenane. Its structure consists of parallel layers containing Co2+ ions linked by bpe ligands, the Co···Co distance through the bpe bridge being 13.65(3) A. Each metal ion, in a layer, defines the edges of a rhombus. Two thiocyanate groups trans-coordinated to the metal atoms are perpendicular to the sheets. Each sheet has an infinite number of perpendicular sheets …

Ca[Ag2(SCN)4]·2H2O

2004

Calcium tetrathiocyanatodiargentate(I) dihydrate, Ca[Ag(2)(SCN)(4)].2H(2)O, contains eight-membered Ag(4)S(4) rings bonded together through shared atoms to form layers parallel to (100). The thiocyanate groups link the layers to Ca-O chains running parallel to the c axis. The Ca atom is located on a twofold rotation axis parallel to b and is surrounded by four water molecules of crystallization and four thiocyanate N atoms in a distorted square antiprism.

Isolation of Two Different Ni2Zn Complexes with an Unprecedented Cocrystal Formed by One of Them and a “Coordination Positional Isomer” of the Other

2013

A new homometallic trinuclear Ni(II) complex [(NiL)2Ni(NCS)2] (1) and three heterometallic trinuclear Ni(II)-Zn(II)-Ni(II) complexes [(NiL)2Zn(NCS)2] (2), [(NiL)2Zn(NCS)2(CH3OH)2]·2CH3OH (3) and {[(NiL)2Zn(NCS)2(CH3OH)2]} {[(NiL)2Zn(NCS)2]} (4) have been synthesized by using the "complex as ligand" approach with the "metalloligand" [NiL] (H2L = N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-1,3-propanediamine) and thiocyanate in different ratios. All the complexes have been structurally and magnetically characterized. In the isomorphous complexes 1 and 2, the two terminal square planar Ni atoms and the central octahedral nickel atom (in 1) or zinc atom (in 2) are arranged in a bent structure where two cis κN-SCN(-…

The two-dimensional iron(ii)–thiocyanate–4,4′-bipyridine coordination network

2010

The crystal structures of eight solvates of {Fe(4,4′-bipyridine)2(NCS)2}n have been determined. All of them contain a layered iron–bipyridine–thiocyanate framework formed from approximately square infinite two-dimensional (4,4) iron–bipyridine grids, with the solvent molecules hosted between adjacent layers. All the structures contain the iron(II) centres in the high-spin electronic configuration, and magnetic susceptibility measurements on the toluene and nitrobenzene solvates do not reveal any spin-crossover behaviour.

Supramolecular diversity and magnetic properties of novel heterometallic Cu(II)/Cr(III) complexes prepared from copper powder, Reineckes salt and eth…

2009

Abstract Three novel heterometallic complexes [Cu(en) 2 Cr(NCS) 4 (NH 3 ) 2 ][Cr(NCS) 4 (NH 3 ) 2 ] · 6dmf ( 1 ), [Cu(en) 2 Cr(NCS) 4 (NH 3 ) 2 ](OAc) ( 2 ) and [{Cu(en) 2 } 3 {Cr(NCS) 4 (NH 3 ) 2 } 2 (NCS) 2 ](NCS) 2 ( 3 ) have been synthesized in a one-pot reaction from copper powder, Reineckes salt, NH 4 X [X −  = OAc − ( 2 ), NCS − ( 3 )] in a dmf ( 1 ) or CH 3 CN ( 2 , 3 ) solution of ethylenediamine (en). X-ray studies showed that 1 and 2 consist of cationic polymeric chains, formed by Cu ( en ) 2 2 + and Cr ( NCS ) 4 ( NH 3 ) 2 - building blocks that bridged through thiocyanate anions. In both complexes, distinct hydrogen bonds are present and serve to increase the dimensionality of …

Synthesis, infrared and121Sb Mssbauer spectra of some Antimony(III) Thiocyanate Complexes

1989

The first isolation of an antimony(III) thiocyanate complex salt, [(CH3)4N][Sb(CNS)4] (I), and of two adducts of the Sb(CNS)3 formal unit with potentially tridentate nitrogen donors, Sb(CNS)3tpta (II) and [Sb(CNS)3]3(dqp)2 (III), is described. In these derivatives, infrared and Mossbauer spectral data are essentially indicating the predominant presence of N-bonded thiocyanate. For complex I, the occurrence also of groups bridging through the nitrogen atom is advanced. Novel Ni(II) Mixed Ligand Complex Modified Electrode: Catalytic Effect on Anodic Oxidation of Phenol

2004

Cyclic voltammetry, using graphite paste electrode (GPE) and chemically modified GPE with Ni(II) mixed ligand complex (MGPE), is described for sensing and detoxification of phenol. A novel mixed ligand complex of nickel with 1,4,8,11-tetraaza cyclotetradecane (cyclam) and thiocyanate in the molar ratio of 1 : 2 : 5 is synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic and electrochemical studies. The Ni(II)-cyclam-thiocyanate complex behaves as a fast electron-transfer mediator, as nickel ions exist in higher oxidation state of Ni(III) on applying a potential of 1.25 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), which catalyses the oxidation of the target species. The mixed ligand complex, when incorporated in the graphite…
