Electronic structure of metal‐free phthalocyanine : A valence effective Hamiltonian theoretical study

We present a valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) nonempirical investigation of the electronic properties of metal‐free phthalocyanine. The valence one‐electron energy levels are related to those of the phthalocyanine components: benzene, pyrrole, and isoindole. From the electronic structure standpoint, phthalocyanine has to be viewed as formed by joining four benzene moieties to the central carbon–nitrogen ring rather than by combining four isoindole units through nitrogen bridges. Theoretical characterization of the electronic properties of unsymmetrical phthalocyanine analogues

Abstract The electronic structure of unsymmetrical phthalocyanine-based compounds is investigated using the nonempirical valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) method. The VEH results predict a slight but continuous destabilization of the HOMO level and a monotonous narrowing of the HOMO-LUMO energy gap as the size of the system increases. The theoretical trends are found to agree with optical absorption experimental data and show that the optical properties of phthalocyanine can be monitored by adjusting the size of the π-conjugated macrocycle.

Isolation and molecular characterization of brain microvascular endothelial cells from human brain tumors.

Brain tumor formation and growth is accompanied by the proliferation and infiltration of blood capillaries. The phenotypes of endothelial cells that make up capillaries are known to differ not only in the tissues in which endothelial cells are located but also as a result of the microenvironment to which they are exposed. For this reason, primary cultures of brain endothelial cells were isolated from human brain tumors removed by surgery and compared with cells from normal tissue. Microwave-based gas sensor with phthalocyanine film at room temperature

Abstract This work presents the development of a microwave gas sensor at room temperature. The design of the sensor includes a coplanar grounded wave guide where is deposited a molecular gas sensing material. In this study, the sensitive material is a thin layer of cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc), sensitive to ammonia and toluene. Submitted to an electromagnetic incident wave in the microwave range, the sensor response is a reflected wave. In the presence of pollutant, the reflected wave shape is specific to the species concentrations. Investigation of phthalocyanine crystals exposed to NO2 ambient gas

Crystals of free base phthalocyanine (H2pc) and its unsubstituted metal derivatives Mpc (where M=Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb, and pc=C32H16N8 2−=phthalocyanine ligand) were examined after being exposed to NO2 ambient gas. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) supported by X-ray microprobe analysis (EDAX), UV–Vis and FTIR spectroscopy as well as X-ray powder diffractometry (XRD) were applied to study the crystals chemistry and surface morphology. The NO2 molecules were found to penetrate the crystal unit which led to the breakdown of the phthalocyanine macrocycle. Sulfur Dioxide Oxidation Catalyzed by Photosensitized Ytterbium Diphthalocyanine

Oxidation of SO2 into SO3 was found effectively catalyzed by photosensitized ytterbium diphthalocyanine, YbPc2 (Pc = phthalocyanine ligand, C32H16N8) when performed in air-saturated dimethylformamide (DMF) solution at 20 °C. The process follows according to a multi-step complex mechanism involving chemical induction as its driving force. Excitation energy of the sandwich molecular system in YbPc2 is used to promote the reaction by creating a reactive intermediate form of the ytterbium complex hosting up to eight SO2 molecules. The conversion of SO2 proved complete.

Development of a microwave transduction gas sensor

In this work, we have developed a new gas-sensing transduction based on the propagation of microwave inside a sensitive material to detect atmospheric pollutants at room temperature. First, we present a short overview of the main gas-sensing transduction in the litterature. These techniques operate in frequency ranges different from microwaves.
