Formation of Variously Shaped Gold Nanoparticles by Anabaena laxa
2017
Anew aspect of this study is the biocatalysis ability of Anabaena laxa—fresh-water strain—which to date has not been studied with respect to the formation of gold nanoparticles. The results of our study have shown that A. laxa is able to form gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) at good yields within 24 h of incubation at all three tested concentrations (0.1, 0.5 and 1 mM) of hydrogen tetrachloroaurate (III). After 24 h, nanoparticles were mostly localized in the growth medium, which significantly facilitates their isolation. However, the elongation of this process is accompanied by their concentration in the exopolysaccharide (EPS) layer of the cyanobacterial cells. There is a correlation between th…
Polynitrile anions as ligands: From magnetic polymeric architectures to spin crossover materials
2010
International audience; The use of polynitrile anions as ligands (L) either alone or in combination with neutral co-ligands (L′) is a very promising and appealing strategy to get molecular architectures with different topologies and dimensionalities thanks to their ability to coordinate and bridge metal ions in many different ways. The presence of several potentially coordinating nitrile groups (or even other donor groups as –OH, –SH or –NH2), their rigidity and their electronic delocalization allow the synthesis of original magnetic high dimensional coordination polymers with transition metals ions. Furthermore, these ligands have shown coordinating and bridging capabilities in novel discr…

Improving the efficiency of light-emitting diode based on a thiophene polymer containing a cyano group
2007
Abstract We report on the overall improvement of a single layer organic light-emitting diode device based on poly{[3-hethylthiophene]-co-3-[2-( p -cyano-phenoxy)ethyl]thiophene} or namely PTOPhCN. This polymer was recently developed by adding a cyano group as a side-chain substituent of the thiophenic backbone onto the main polymer chain and showed promising results for light-emitting diode devices. Using an improved device layout, bright red electroluminescence was obtained at 4 V and showed a luminance of about 400 cd/m 2 at 8 V with current densities in the order of 6000 A/m 2 .
Ahmed valve, suture-less implantation: A new approach to an easier technique.
2013
Purpose Tissue adhesives have been used in ophthalmology instead of sutures to minimize the operating time. This case series investigated the effectiveness and safety of use of cyanoacrylate in Ahmed valve implantation through pars plana for refractory glaucoma. Patients and methods Seventeen eyes of 17 patients with refractory glaucoma underwent Ahmed valve scleral suture-less implantation through pars plana with a cyanoacrylate suture of the plate. Refractory glaucoma was defined as intraocular pressure (IOP) ≥ 21 mm Hg with antiglaucoma eye drops, good adherence to treatment, and no previous glaucoma surgery. IOP control and development of complications were evaluated during the follow-u…
Pathway-specificity in N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor-mediated synaptic inputs onto subplate neurons
2007
The subplate plays an important role in forming neuronal connections during early cortical development. We characterized by the use of whole-cell and cell-attached patch-clamp recordings in coronal brain slices from newborn mice (postnatal day [P] 0-3) the functional properties of two major pathways onto subplate neurons (SPn), the thalamocortical and the intra-subplate synaptic input. The two afferent pathways were stimulated extracellularly with bipolar electrodes placed in the thalamus and the subplate, respectively. Synaptically evoked and pharmacologically isolated N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) -mediated responses with an onset latency of approximately 6 ms could be reliably re…
Primary structure and unusual carbohydrate moiety of functional unit 2-c of keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH)
1999
Abstract The complete amino acid sequence of the Megathura crenulata hemocyanin functional unit KLH2-c was determined by direct sequencing and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry of the protein, and of peptides obtained by cleavage with EndoLysC proteinase, chymotrypsin and cyanogen bromide. This is the first complete primary structure of a functional unit c from a gastropod hemocyanin. KLH2-c consists of 420 amino acid residues. Circular dichroism spectra indicated approx. 31% β-sheet and 29% α-helix contents. A multiple sequence alignment with other molluscan hemocyanin functional units revealed average identities between 41 and 49%, but 55% in case of Octopus he…
Origin of the synchronicity in bond formation in polar Diels-Alder reactions: an ELF analysis of the reaction between cyclopentadiene and tetracyanoe…
2012
[EN] The origin of the synchronicity in C-C bond formation in polar Diels-Alder (P-DA) reactions involving symmetrically substituted electrophilic ethylenes has been studied by an ELF analysis of the electron reorganization along the P-DA reaction of cyclopentadiene (Cp) 4 with tetracyanoethylene (TCE) 10 at the B3LYP/6-31G* level. The present study makes it possible to establish that the synchronicity in C-C bond formation in P-DA reactions is controlled by the symmetric distribution of the electron-density excess reached in the electrophile through the charge transfer process, which can be anticipated by an analysis of the spin electron-density at the corresponding radical anion. The ELF …
Nostotrebin 6 Related Cyclopentenediones and δ-Lactones with Broad Activity Spectrum Isolated from the Cultivation Medium of the Cyanobacterium Nosto…
2020
Cyanobacteria are an interesting source of biologically active natural products, especially chemically diverse and potent protease inhibitors. On our search for inhibitors of the trypanosomal cysteine protease rhodesain, we identified the homodimeric cyclopentenedione (CPD) nostotrebin 6 (1) and new related monomeric, dimeric, and higher oligomeric compounds as the active substances in the medium extract of Nostoc sp. CBT1153. The oligomeric compounds are composed of two core monomeric structures, a trisubstituted CPD or a trisubstituted unsaturated δ-lactone. Nostotrebin 6 thus far has been the only known cyanobacterial CPD. It has been found to be active in a broad variety of assays, indi…
