Reprocessed polylactide: Studies of thermo-oxidative decomposition
2012
The combustion process of virgin and reprocessed polylactide (PLA) was simulated by multi-rate linear non-isothermal thermogravimetric experiments under O2. A complete methodology that accounted on the thermal stability and emission of gases was thoroughly developed. A new model, Thermal Decomposition Behavior, and novel parameters, the Zero-Decomposition Temperatures, were used to test the thermal stability of the materials under any linear heating rate. The release of gases was monitored by Evolved Gas Analysis with in-line FT-IR analysis. In addition, a kinetic analysis methodology that accounted for variable activation parameters showed that the decomposition process could be driven by …
Solid state 13C-NMR methodology for the cellulose composition studies of the shells of Prunus dulcis and their derived cellulosic materials.
2020
Lignocellulosic fibers and microcellulose have been obtained by simple alkaline treatment from softwood al- mond shells. In particular, the Prunus dulcis Miller (D.A.) Webb. was considered as a agro industrial waste largely available in southern Italy. The materials before and after purification have been characterized by 13C CPMAS NMR spectroscopy methodology. A proper data analysis provided the relative composition of lignin and holo- cellulose at each purification step and the results were compared with thermogravimetric analysis and FT-IR. To value the possibility of using this material in a circular economy framework, the fibrous cellulosic material was used to manufacture a handmade c…
The Effect of Different High-Intensity Periodization Models on Endurance Adaptations
2016
Purpose: This study aimed to compare the effects of three different high-intensity training (HIT) models, balanced for total load but differing in training plan progression, on endurance adaptations. Methods: Sixty-three cyclists (peak oxygen uptake (V˙O2peak) 61.3 ± 5.8 mL·kg−1·min−1) were randomized to three training groups and instructed to follow a 12-wk training program consisting of 24 interval sessions, a high volume of low-intensity training, and laboratory testing. The increasing HIT group (n = 23) performed interval training as 4 × 16 min in weeks 1–4, 4 × 8 min in weeks 5–8, and 4 × 4 min in weeks 9–12. The decreasing HIT group (n = 20) performed interval sessions in the opposite…
Psychosocial and environmental correlates of active commuting for university students.
2009
Abstract Objective To examine psychosocial and environmental correlates of active commuting to university (ACU) and explore its association with overall physical activity among college students. Methods The sample included 518 students (mean 22.4 years; 59.7% female) from two universities in Valencia, Spain. Weekly estimations of energy expenditure from ACU and total physical activity were obtained. Socio-economic status, self-efficacy, barriers to active transport, access to car and motorbike, access to public transport, walking and cycling facilities and distance to university were assessed. Data were collected April and May of 2009, using a self-administered survey. A structural equation…
Distraction of cyclists: how does it influence their risky behaviors and traffic crashes?
2018
BackgroundUndisputedly, traffic crashes constitute a public health concern whose impact and importance have been increasing during the past few decades. Specifically, road safety data have systematically shown how cyclists are highly vulnerable to suffering traffic crashes and severe injuries derived from them. Furthermore, although the empirical evidence is still very limited in this regard, in addition to other human factors involved in cycling crashes, distractions while cycling appear to be a major contributor to the road risk of cyclists.ObjectivesThe main objectives of this study were, first, to explore the prevalence and trends of cycling distractions within an international sample o…
Application of textile fibres from tire recycling in asphalt mixtures
2022
The tire rubber obtained from end-of-life car and truck tires has been successfully recycled, among other applications, in the asphalt industry by providing a mean to get asphalt mixtures with superior performance. Textile fibres are another component derived from tire recycling typically disposed of in landfills or used in energetic valorisation. This paper wants to re-ignite interest in this secondary product by evaluating its use as a valuable resource in asphalt mixtures. Indirect tensile tests, dynamic modulus, fatigue resistance, and permanent deformation tests were performed on a series of AC14 asphalt mixtures manufactured with two binders, namely 50/70 and 35/50 pen, using several …
Effect of concurrent resistance and sprint training on body composition and cardiometabolic health indicators in masters cyclists
2016
In older previously sedentary individuals endurance training imposes a more effective stimulus to enhance cardiometabolic health compared with resistance or sprint training. We examined the effect of replacing a portion of endurance training with combined resistance and/or sprint training and how this influences cardiometabolic health indicators in masters endurance cyclists. Twenty-seven well-trained male road cyclists (53.7± 8.2 years) were allocated to a resistance and track sprintcycling training group (RTC, n= 10), an endurance and track sprint-cycling group (ETC, n = 7) or a control endurance group (CTRL, n = 10). Both the RTC and ETC groups completed a 12-week intervention of specifi…
An Ethnographic Exploration of Southern Norwegian Second-Hand Cultures
2019
Master's thesis Global development and planning UT506 - University of Agder 2019 n this era of online shops and big retail shops, second-hand markets still exist in many places, including in Norway. Second-hand markets in this thesis consist of flea markets and second-hand shops. Flea markets open in spring, summer, and autumn in Southern Norway. These markets are established by various communities, clubs, and organizations. Some flea markets are also opened by individuals. On the other hand, thrift shops or bruktbutikker open through year. Second-hand shops are also established by non-profit organizations or individuals. This study explores the culture of second-hand marketsin Southern Nor…
Risvegli
2015
Manipolazione tipologica
2021
The team, since the early stages of the project, has worked with the will to seize, in collaboration and multidisciplinary dialogue, an opportunity for cultural and scientific growth to achieve shared solutions. The regeneration of the area subject of this study has assumed four elementary actions as operational tools declined to the urban, architectural and technological scale: include, subtract, add and connect. In Tor Bella Monaca, the lack of sense of urbanity is the real cause of environmental discomfort. The size, the layout and the position of the large residential units deprive the inhabitants of a sense of belonging to the city that has been reformulated by reorganizing the greener…
