Adriamycin Permeability of the Rat Bladder under Different Conditions

Abstract Fifty female Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with 1.4 or 2.4 mg. adriamycin intravesically. Radioimmunological measurement of serum concentrations were performed up to 3 hours post-instillation in normal bladder mucosa, cystitis, and after electrocoagulation, under different filling conditions, as well as with the use of a detergent (Tween 80). The serum concentrations achieved were markedly higher after electrocoagulation or cystitis; altogether they reached only 1/6,000 of the instilled concentration. Abstract Chronic Prostatitis Syndrome (CPS) is a frequent disease. Before the PSA era, data from various sources showed that there were more outpatient visits for CPS than for BPH or prostate cancer. CPS has a very negative impact on the patients’ quality of life. However, this debilitating disease stimulates relatively little enthusiasm in the urological world. Cilj: Cilj ovoga rada je prikazati pacijenta s intersticijskim cistitisom u kojega je došlo do stvaranja kamenaca u novoformiranom urinskom spremniku. Prikaz slučaja: Pacijent star 48 godina obrađivan je zbog recidivnih infekcija mokraćnog sustava. Prethodno mu je zbog intersticijskog cistitisa, koji je znatno utjecao na njegovu kvalitetu života, učinjena cistektomija uz oblikovanje urinskog spremnika (Mainz-pouch I). Urološkom obradom pronađena su u području urinskoga spremnika dva velika kamenca dimenzija 77 × 74 mm te 76 × 62 mm uz obostranu hidronefrozu. Aim of the study: To evaluate the efficacy of a nutraceutical compound containing Uticlin® (D-mannose, cranberry, bearberry, Olea europaea), inulin, Orthosiphon and Lactobacillus acidophilus, in preventing recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in menopausal women. Material and methods: This was a prospective cohort study of menopausal women recruited with a history of recurrent UTIs in the previous twelve months and who intended to treat their bladder problem without the use of antibiotics and/or anti-inflammatories.
