Abstract Objective Propranolol-induced involution is a unique biological feature of some pediatric vascular tumors, for instance infantile hemangioma (IH), cerebral cavernoma or chorioangioma. Currently, the cellular origin of these distinct tumors is unclear. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that propranolol-responsive vascular tumors are derived from common vessel-forming CD15 + progenitor cells which occur in early gestation. Establishment and Characterization of an Angiosarcoma-Derived Cell Line, AS-M

A novel human endothelial cell line, AS-M, has been established from a cutaneous angiosarcoma on the scalp. The cells expressing platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (CD31) were isolated using magnetic beads and subsequently cultured for a year. To date, the cells have undergone more than 100 population doublings (PDs). Endothelial VEGFR-3 expression in colorectal carcinomas is associated with hematogenous metastasis

Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 (VEGFR-3) is a major inducer of lymphangiogenic signalling and seems to be involved also in angiogenesis. Since both processes are closely linked with tumor metastasis this study investigated the expression of VEGFR-3 in tumor-associated vessels in colorectal carcinomas and evaluated its relevance for lymphogenous and hematogenous metastasis. Uterine glomeruloid hemangioma in a patient without POEMS syndrome.

Cutaneous glomeruloid hemangioma is a hallmark of POEMS syndrome. These patients have elevated serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor. The authors report an extracutaneous uterine glomeruloid hemangioma in an 82-year-old woman with a history of breast and endometrial carcinomas. Within the lumen of myometrial vessels, a lobular, glomeruloid proliferation of capillary-like CD31 and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-1-positive endothelial cells was found. Frank H. Knight on social values in economic consumption: an archival note

We reproduce an unpublished address on “Social Values in Economic Consumption” which Knight prepared for a SSRC Conference in June 1931. This material sheds new light on Knight in two respects. First, anticipating what is known as the relative income hypothesis, Knight indicated that a general increase in income, not only leaves the individual’s relative position in society unaltered but makes her/his situation worse off due to the peculiar characteristics of the market for “personal services.” Second, this address provides further evidence of how, in spite of some substantial methodological differences, Knight’s research interests converged with those of the institutionalists.
