Three-dimensional analysis of load transfer micro-mechanisms in fibre/matrix composites

International audience; This study gives a detailed analysis of load distributions around fibre breaks in a composite. In contrast to other studies reported in the literature, the analysis considers different configurations of composite damage from the failure of a few to the failure of many fibres. The model considers three types of matrix behaviours (elastic, elastic–plastic and viscoelastic) with or without debonding at the broken fibre/matrix interface. In this way, the usual limitations of the finite element approach are overcome so as to take into account the number and interactions of broken fibres whilst maintaining an evaluation of the various fields (stresses in particular).

Non associative damage interface model for mixed mode delamination and frictional contact

Abstract The present paper proposes a new interface constitutive model based on the non-associative damage mechanics and frictional plasticity. The model is developed in a thermodynamically consistent framework, with three independent damage variables. The non associative flow rules drive the concurrent evolution of the three damage variables. The interface model provides two independent values for the mode I fracture energy and the mode II fracture energy and it is able to accurately reproduce arbitrary mixed mode fracture conditions. 8-Oxoguanine DNA glycosylase (OGG1), which initiates the repair of DNA purine modifications such as 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanine (8-oxoG), is often regarded as a house keeping protein ubiquitously active in mammalian cells. We have analysed the repair rates of oxidized purines generated by photosensitization in peripheral human lymphocytes and observed that the cells were virtually unable to remove these lesions (less than 10% removal within 24h). However, stimulation of the lymphocytes with phytohemagglutinin (PHA) strongly accelerated the repair so that ∼30% of the lesions were repaired within 4h. At the same time, their activity needs to be well-controlled to prevent silencing of ‘self’ genes.
