The recent jurisprudence seems to take a case by case approach that raise concern…
Stochastic modeling and prediction of catalytic converters degradation
2009
This paper proposes a stochastic model for describing the degradation process of catalytic converters over time, where the degradation is indirectly measured through the emission of complex hydrocarbons (HC) in legislated driving cycles. The proposed model is the superposition of two processes, the former being a dependent increments process which describes the actual degradation process, and the latter a white noise process which models the experimental errors. In particular, the proposed model assumes that the degradation growth in a small usage interval depends on the degradation level at the beginning of the interval, rather than on the age of the converter. The model has been applied t…
P-69TLR4 ELIMINATION PREVENTS LONG-LASTING ETHANOL EFFECTS ON COCAINE-INDUCED CONDITIONED PLACE PREFERENCE IN ADOLESCENT MICE
2015
Our previous studies indicated that binge-like ethanol treatment in adolescent rats induces an increase in the conditioned rewarding effects of cocaine. Ethanol induces the production of cytokines and inflammatory mediators, that cause brain damage by activating the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling response. To test if these receptor mediated the observed increased in cocaine-induced conditioned …
Photolysis of N-hydroxpyridinethiones: a new source of hydroxyl radicals for the direct damage of cell-free and cellular DNA.
1996
N-Hydroxypyridine-2-thione (2-HPT), known to release hydroxyl radicals on irradiation with visible light, and two related compounds, viz. N-hydroxypyridine-4-thione (4-HPT) and N-hydroxyacridine-9-thione (HAT), were tested for their potency to induce DNA damage in L1210 mouse leukemia cells and in isolated DNA from bacteriophage PM2. DNA single-strand breaks and modifications sensitive to various repair endonucleases (Fpg protein, endonuclease III, exonuclease III, T4 endonuclease V) were quantified. Illumination of cell-free DNA in the presence of 2-HPT and 4-HPT gave rise to damage profiles characteristic for hydroxyl radicals, i.e. single-strand breaks and the various endonuclease-sensit…

Microvascular brain damage with aging and hypertension
2011
Loss of cognitive function and hypertension are two common conditions in the elderly and both significantly contribute to loss of personal independency. Microvascular brain damage - the result of age-associated alteration in large arteries and the progressive mismatch of their cross-talk with small cerebral arteries - represents a potent risk factor for cognitive decline and for the onset of dementia in older individuals. The present review discusses the complexity of factors linking large artery to microvascular brain disease and to cognitive decline and the evidence for possible clinical markers useful for prevention of this phenomenon. The possibility of dementia prevention by cardiovasc…
DNA damage photo-induced by chloroharmine isomers: hydrolysis versus oxidation of nucleobases
2018
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an emerging clinical treatment currently being used against a wide range of both cancerous and noncancerous diseases. The search for new active photosensitizers as well as the development of novel selective delivery systems are the major challenges faced in the application of PDT. We investigated herein three chloroharmine derivatives (6-, 8- and 6,8-dichloroharmines) with quite promising intrinsic photochemical tunable properties and their ability to photoinduce DNA damage in order to elucidate the underlying photochemical mechanisms. Data revealed that the three compounds are quite efficient photosensitizers. The overall extent of photo-oxidative DNA damage i…
Osservazioni intorno a Sopravvenienze e rimedi nei contratti di durata
2019
The essay deals with the subject of contractual change of circumstances and related remedies. In particular, the work focuses on the debate on the possibility of configuring a legal renegotiation obligation in the Italian legal system. The critical examination of favorable positions allows us to offer a more precise reading on the margins of application of the renegotiation.
TLR4 elimination prevents synaptic and myelin alterations and long-term cognitive dysfunctions in adolescent mice with intermittent ethanol treatment.
2015
The adolescent brain undergoes important dynamic and plastic cell changes, including overproduction of axons and synapses, followed by rapid pruning along with ongoing axon myelination. These developmental changes make the adolescent brain particularly vulnerable to neurotoxic and behavioral effects of alcohol. Although the mechanisms of these effects are largely unknown, we demonstrated that ethanol by activating innate immune receptors toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), induces neuroinflammation and brain damage in adult mice. The present study aims to evaluate whether intermittent ethanol treatment in adolescence promotes TLR4-dependent pro-inflammatory processes, leading to myelin and synapti…
Impact of Terrestrial Neutrons on the Reliability of SiC VD-MOSFET Technologies
2021
Accelerated terrestrial neutron irradiations were performed on different commercial SiC power MOSFETs with planar, trench and double-trench architectures. The results were used to calculate the failure cross-sections and the failure in time (FIT) rates at sea level. Enhanced gate and drain leakage were observed in some devices which did not exhibit a destructive failure during the exposure. In particular, a different mechanism was observed for planar and trench gate MOSFETs, the first showing a partial gate rupture with a leakage path mostly between drain and gate, similar to what was previously observed with heavy-ions, while the second exhibiting a complete gate rupture. The observed fail…
