Matemātikas olimpiāžu uzdevumu iekļaušana mācību procesā 5.-9. klasei atbilstoši pamatizglītības programmas paraugam
2022
Analysis of high-frequency rotational angioplasty-induced echo contrast.
1991
During high-frequency rotational angioplasty (HFRA), myocardial contrast enhancement (echo contrast) was observed by means of two-dimensional echocardiography. In order to evaluate the echo contrast produced by HFRA, an in vitro experimental model was built using a cylinder with the HFRA catheter scanned in a water bath. The cylinder was filled with blood, mineral water, and distilled water. With a 2.5-MHz transducer, echograms were recorded and analyzed by video intensitometer, and the maximum intensity IUmax and persistence time P were calculated. Rotation frequencies of 20,000-200,000 rpm with 2.0--mm burrs and times of 10 s were tested. In another model, hyperbaric conditions for the sa…
Screw fixation of radial head fractures: Compression screw versus lag screw—A biomechanical comparison
2009
Abstract Introduction Secondary loss of reduction and pseudarthrosis due to unstable fixation methods remain challenging problems of surgical stabilisation of radial head fractures. The purpose of our study was to determine whether the 3.0 mm Headless Compression Screw (HCS) provides superior stability to the standard 2.0 mm cortical screw (COS). Materials and methods Eight pairs of fresh frozen human cadaveric proximal radii were used for this paired comparison. A standardised Mason II-Fracture was created with a fragment size of 1/3 of the radial head's articular surface that was then stabilised either with two 3.0 mm HCS (Synthes) or two 2.0 mm COS (Synthes) according to a randomisation …
Predictors of carotid artery in-stent restenosis
2012
SummaryBackgroundCarotid angioplasty and stenting (CAS) is increasingly being used as a treatment alternative to endarterectomy (CEA), especially in patients aged <70 years with significant carotid artery stenosis. However, an in-stent restenosis (ISR) might endangering the long-term efficacy of CAS. The aim of this article was to review the current literature regarding incidence and clinical significance as well as predictors of in-stent restenosis.MethodsWe conducted a systematic review of the literature to identify all studies on the abovementioned factors.Results3 randomized-controlled trials comparing CAS and CEA and 13 single centre studies fulfilled our inclusion criteria. The occurr…
Coverage of urethroplasty in pediatric hypospadias: Randomized comparison between different flaps
2013
Objectives The use of covering urethroplasty with flaps in hypospadias surgery has been well recommended. Various techniques have been described for flap harvesting. The aim of the present study was to compare the outcome and complication rate of dorsal preputial flaps and ventral dartos flaps. Methods A total of 130 patients were prospectively evaluated from January 2008 to December 2011. Using the tubularized incised plate urethroplasty procedure, urethroplasty was carried out by a single surgeon. Patients were randomly divided in two groups: group A (57 patients), in which a preputial flap was carried out using three different techniques; and group B (73 patients), in which a single or a…
Erfassung hämodynamischer Parameter bei Patienten mit chronischer thromboembolischer pulmonaler Hypertonie mittels MRT vor und nach Thrombendarteriek…
2003
Purpose: To evaluate the potential of MRI to grade cardiac impairment and pulmonary hypertension in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) in comparison with invasive pressure measurements before and after surgery. Materials and Methods: We examined 35 patients with CTEPH before and after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE). For assessment of hemodynamics, velocity-encoded segmented GE-sequences (pulmonary arteries and ascending aorta) and segmented cine GE-sequences along the short axis of the heart were performed. The analysis comprised calculation of ejection fractions, peak velocities, mean pulmonary arterial flow and vessel diameter. 10 volunteers served …
Die Hochenergetische Extrakorporale Stoßwellentherapie (ESWT) in der Behandlung von Pseudarthrosen
2008
PROBLEM The success rate of high-energy extracorporal shock wave therapy in the treatment of non-unions in comparison to the "golden standard" surgery is still unclear. METHOD In a prospective study, 3000 impulses with an energy density of 0.6 mJ/mm2 were applied with an experimental device to the pseudarthrosis in 52 patients. RESULTS The mean duration of pseudarthrosis was 13 months. A mean of 2.5 surgical interventions had already been performed. Bony union was achieved in 52% of our patients after an average of 3.3 months. Failures especially were found in the atrophic type of pseudarthrosis as well as in congenital bone disorders like fibrous dysplasia or osteogenesis imperfecta. No se…
Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension from the perspective of patients with pulmonary embolism
2018
Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a rare but feared long-term complication of acute pulmonary embolism (PE), although CTEPH may occur in patients with no history of symptomatic venous thromboembolism. It represents the most severe presentation of the so-called 'post-PE syndrome', a phenomenon of permanent functional limitations after PE caused by deconditioning after PE or ventilatory or circulatory impairment as a result of unresolved pulmonary artery thrombi. Because the post-PE syndrome may occur in up to 50% of PE survivors, and CTEPH tends to have an insidious and non-specific clinical presentation, CTEPH is often not diagnosed or diagnosed after a very long dela…
Surgical treatment of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.
2006
Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension is a commonly overlooked cause of physical incapacity and dyspnoea, with a higher incidence than is generally appreciated and a poor prognosis. The diagnosis can be suspected based on echocardiographic examinations and ventilation perfusion scanning of the lung. Pulmonary angiography still remains the gold standard for the diagnosis of thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and the assessment of operability. Pulmonary endarterectomy is a complex surgical procedure, which provides permanent relief of thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and cure for most of the patients. The operation resembles a true endarterectomy of the pulmonary artery branch…
