Katra dinastija, balstoties uz aktuālajiem pierakstiem, rakstīja iepriekšējo dinastiju vēstures. Šīs oficiālās standarta dinastiju vēstures, t.s. dženši 正史, pazīst ar nosaukumu „Divdesmit četras vēstures” (Eršisi ši 二十四史). Kā pirmo tieši vienas dinastijas vēstures aprakstam veltīto darbu uzskata vēsturnieka un galma ierēdņa Baņ Gu un viņa tēva Baņ Bjao sastādīto „Agrīnās Haņ dinastijas vēsturi” (Haņ šu 漢書).
