Morphological alterations in the hippocampus of the Ts65Dn mouse model for Down syndrome correlate with structural plasticity markers
2018
Down syndrome (DS) is the most common chromosomal aneuploidy. Although trisomy on chromosome 21 can display variable phenotypes, there is a common feature among all DS individuals: the presence of intellectual disability. This condition is partially attributed to abnormalities found in the hippocampus of individuals with DS and in the murine model for DS, Ts65Dn. To check if all hippocampal areas were equally affected in 4-5 month adult Ts65Dn mice, we analysed the morphology of dentate gyrus granule cells and cornu ammonis pyramidal neurons using Sholl method on Golgi-Cox impregnated neurons. Structural plasticity has been analysed using immunohistochemistry for plasticity molecules follow…

Evaluation of proteasomal gene polymorphisms in Lithuanian patients with asthma.
2014
To investigate polymorphisms of proteasomal genes PSMA6 (rs1048990 and rs2277460), PSMC6 (rs2295826 and rs2295827) and PSMA3 (rs2348071) in Lithuanian patients with asthma.One-hundred forty-six asthma patients and 150 control subjects were studied. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood samples. Five single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP's) of the three proteasomal genes were analyzed using allele-specific amplification or the cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence method. While certain alleles and genotypes of PSMA6 rs2277460 and rs1048990 and PSMA3 rs2348071 SNP's occurred more frequently in asthma patients than in controls, no statistically significant differences in alleles or genotypes …
Cardioprotective effects of the serine protease inhibitor aprotinin after regional ischemia and reperfusion on the beating heart.
2002
AbstractObjective: Early coronary reperfusion of the ischemic myocardium is a desired therapeutic goal to preserve myocardium. However, reperfusion itself contributes to an additional myocardial injury (ie, reperfusion injury), which has been attributed to neutrophil infiltration with subsequent release of proteases and oxygen-derived radicals. We studied the effects of the serine protease inhibitor aprotinin (Trasylol) on myocardial ischemia and reperfusion in a rat model. Methods: The effects of aprotinin (5000 and 20,000 U/kg) were examined in vivo in a rat model of regional myocardial ischemia (20 minutes) and long-term reperfusion (24 hours). Cardioprotecive effects were determined by …
