A Review of Recent Range Image Registration Methods with Accuracy Evaluation

2007

International audience; The three-dimensional reconstruction of real objects is an important topic in computer vision. Most of the acquisition systems are limited to reconstruct a partial view of the object obtaining in blind areas and occlusions, while in most applications a full reconstruction is required. Many authors have proposed techniques to fuse 3D surfaces by determining the motion between the different views. The first problem is related to obtaining a rough registration when such motion is not available. The second one is focused on obtaining a fine registration from an initial approximation. In this paper, a survey of the most common techniques is presented. Furthermore, a sampl…

State Observer with Round-Robin Aperiodic Sampled Measurements with Jitter

2021

International audience; A sampled-data observer is proposed for linear continuous-time systems whose outputs are sequentially sampled via non-uniform sampling intervals repeating a prescribed Round-Robin sequence. With constant sampling intervals (jitter-free case) we provide constructive necessary and sufficient conditions for the design of an asymptotic continuous-discrete observer whose estimation error is input-to-state stable (ISS) from process disturbances and measurement noise. We use a time-varying gain depending on the elapsed time since the last measurement. With non-constant sampling intervals (jitter-tolerant case), our design conditions are only sufficient. A suspension system …

Iterated greedy with variable neighborhood search for a multiobjective waste collection problem

2020

Abstract In the last few years, the application of decision making to logistic problems has become crucial for public and private organizations. Efficient decisions clearly contribute to improve operational aspects such as cost reduction or service improvement. The particular case of waste collection service considered in this paper involves a set of economic, labor and environmental issues that translate into difficult operational problems. They pose a challenge to nowadays optimization technologies since they have multiple constraints and multiple objectives that may be in conflict. We therefore need to resort to multiobjective approaches to model and solve this problem, providing efficie…

Efficient Transport Protocol for Networked Haptics Applications

2008

The performance of haptic application is highly sensitive to communication delays and losses of data. It implies several constraints in developing networked haptic applications. This paper describes a new internet protocol called Efficient Transport Protocol (ETP), which aims at developing distributed interactive applications. TCP and UDP are transport protocols commonly used in any kind of networked communication, but they are not focused on real time application. This new protocol is focused on reducing roundtrip time (RTT) and interpacket gap (IPG). ETP is, therefore, optimized for interactive applications which are based on processes that are continuously exchanging data. ETP protocol i…

Networked Bio-Inspired Evolutionary Dynamics on a Multi-Population

2019

We consider a multi-population, represented by a network of groups of individuals. Every player of each group can choose between two options, and we study the problem of reaching consensus. The dynamics not only depend on the dynamics within the group, but they also depend on the topology of the network, so neighboring groups influence individuals as well. First, we develop a mathematical model of this networked bio-inspired evolutionary behavior and we study its steady-state. We look at the special case where the underlying network topology is a regular and unweighted graph and show that the steady-state is a consensus equilibrium. A sufficient condition for exponential stability is given.…

Graph-theoretical derivation of brain structural connectivity

2020

Brain connectivity at the single neuron level can provide fundamental insights into how information is integrated and propagated within and between brain regions. However, it is almost impossible to adequately study this problem experimentally and, despite intense efforts in the field, no mathematical description has been obtained so far. Here, we present a mathematical framework based on a graph-theoretical approach that, starting from experimental data obtained from a few small subsets of neurons, can quantitatively explain and predict the corresponding full network properties. This model also changes the paradigm with which large-scale model networks can be built, from using probabilisti…

Enriching standards-based digital thread by fusing as-designed and as-inspected data using knowledge graphs

2020

Abstract Realizing the digital thread is essential for linking and orchestrating data across the product lifecycle in smart manufacturing. Linking heterogeneous lifecycle data is critical to maintain associativity and traceability in a digital thread. Recently, researchers have successfully leveraged ontology models with knowledge graphs in engineering domains for threading different lifecycle data. One of the most successful of such efforts is OntoSTEP which enables the formal capture of information embedded in the STandard for Exchange of Product model data (STEP) data representation, or ISO 10303. Meanwhile, an emerging inspection standard, called the Quality Information Framework (QIF),…

Wind component estimation for UAS flying in turbulent air

2019

One of the most important problem of autonomous flight for UAS is the wind identification, especially for small scale vehicles. This research focusses on an identification methodology based on the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). In particular authors focus their attention on.the filter tuning problem. The proposed procedure requires low computational power, so it is very useful for UAS. Besides it allows a robust wind component identification even when, as it is usually, the measurement data set is affected by noticeable noises. (C) 2019 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.

Beyond cells – The virome in the human holobiont

2019

Viromics, or viral metagenomics, is a relatively new and burgeoning field of research that studies the complete collection of viruses forming part of the microbiota in any given niche. It has strong foundations rooted in over a century of discoveries in the field of virology and recent advances in molecular biology and sequencing technologies. Historically, most studies have deconstructed the concept of viruses into a simplified perception of viral agents as mere pathogens, which demerits the scope of large-scale viromic analyses. Viruses are, in fact, much more than regular parasites. They are by far the most dynamic and abundant entity and the greatest killers on the planet, as well as th…

A proposed mapping method for aligning machine execution data to numerical control code

2019

The visions of the digital thread and smart manufacturing have boosted the potential of relating downstream data to upstream decisions in design. However, to date, the tools and methods to robustly map across the related data representations is significantly lacking. In response, we propose a mapping technique for standard manufacturing data representations. Specifically, we focus on relating controller data from machining tools in the form of MTConnect, an emerging standard that defines the vocabulary and semantics as well as communications protocols for execution data, and G-Code, the most widely used standard for numerical control (NC) instructions. We evaluate the efficacy of our mappin…
