A GIS-Based Methodology to Estimate the Potential Demand of an Integrated Transport System

2017

In the design of a new public transport system or of an extension of an existing system, the choice of a suitable placement of stations and stops in the territory and the definition of the main axes are very important. The different choice in the number and distribution of the stops of a road transport system or of a railway transport system, in fact, makes the system more or less widespread and affects the consistency of the catchment area and the attractiveness of the system. The accessibility of a system, add to the reliability in providing the service, is the fundamental parameter influencing the modal split of the users. Therefore, the Public Administration must have tools able to eval…

Readability and the Web

2012

Readability indices measure how easy or difficult it is to read and comprehend a text. In this paper we look at the relation between readability indices and web documents from two different perspectives. On the one hand we analyse how to reliably measure the readability of web documents by applying content extraction techniques and incorporating a bias correction. On the other hand we investigate how web based corpus statistics can be used to measure readability in a novel and language independent way.

Evolutionary and phenotypic characterization of spike mutations in a new SARS-CoV-2 Lineage reveals two Variants of Interest

2021

Molecular epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 aims to monitor the appearance of new variants with the potential to change the virulence or transmissibility of the virus. During the first year of SARS-CoV-2 evolution, numerous variants with possible public health impact have emerged. We have detected two mutations in the Spike protein at amino acid positions 1163 and 1167 that have appeared independently multiple times in different genetic backgrounds, indicating they may increase viral fitness. Interestingly, the majority of these sequences appear in transmission clusters, with the genotype encoding mutations at both positions increasing in frequency more than single-site mutants. This genetic outco…

STEP 0: Initial Scenario

2011

The main purpose of this video-tutorial is to show you how to clone a DB2 subsystem to other subsystem running in the same Z/OS LPAR. Each step is explained with a video (screen cast). It is supossed that you have two DB2 subsystems, in this case DB8G (source) and DBF (target), both up & running. The procedure is automated in three main steps contained in library SYSADM.ODBCLONE. First step is related with the physical COPY from SOURCE datasets to TARGET DB2 datasets. While the remaining, are related with making target DB2 BSDS & CATALOG consistent with the location of the DATASETS copied from source subsystem

Gli Archivi Digitali e l'Antropologia Virtuale. Ricostruzione 3D di un cranio umano mediante la moderna tecnica della Fotogrammetria

2022

Modern digital archives mainly thanks to recent developments in 3D modelling by TAC, Laser Scanner and Photogrammetry are highy useful for easily storing and exchanging large amounts of data for both qualitative and quantitative studies. Photogrammetry is a versatile and inexpensive technique that starting from one or more sets of 2D digital images allows for high-resolution 3D models to be built. The protocol reported here allows users with different backgrounds to easily and quickly built accurate models of human skulls using minimal and inexpensive equipment by simply modifying only some of the default settings of the Agisoft-Metashape software. The photo acquisition and the workflow of …

Performance optimisation of biological pathway data storage, retrieval, analysis and its interactive visualisation

2018

The aim of this research was to optimise the performance of the storage, retrieval, analysis and interactive visualisation of biomolecular pathways data. This was achieved by the adoption of new technologies and a variety of highly optimised data structures, algorithms and strategies across the different layers of the software. The first challenge to overcome was the creation of a long-lasting, large-scale web application to enable pathways navigation; the Pathway Browser. This tool had to aggregate different modules to allow users to browse pathway content and use their own data to perform pathway analysis. Another challenge was the development of a high-performance pathway analysis tool t…

Global diversity in the TAS2R38 bitter taste receptor: revisiting a classic evolutionary PROPosal

2016

AbstractThe ability to taste phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) and 6-n-propylthiouracil (PROP) is a polymorphic trait mediated by the TAS2R38 bitter taste receptor gene. It has long been hypothesized that global genetic diversity at this locus evolved under pervasive pressures from balancing natural selection. However, recent high-resolution population genetic studies of TAS2Rs suggest that demographic events have played a critical role in the evolution of these genes. We here utilized the largest TAS2R38 database yet analyzed, consisting of 5,589 individuals from 105 populations, to examine natural selection, haplotype frequencies and linkage disequilibrium to estimate the effects of both selectio…

FLEXIBLE AND TENACIOUS GOAL PURSUIT IN RELATION TO OUTDOOR MOBILITY IN OLD AGE

2018

Goal pursuit may affect older people’s outdoor mobility, a correlate of quality of life. This study investigated associations of flexible and tenacious goal pursuit with perceived autonomy in participation outdoors and life-space mobility. Participants were community-dwelling older people aged 79–93 years (n=185). Tenacious goal pursuit (TGP) and flexible goal adjustment (FGA) were self-reported with separate scales (ranges 5–25). Perceived autonomy in participation was assessed with the Impact on Participation and Autonomy ‘outdoors’-subscale (range 0–20), and life-space mobility with the Life-Space Assessment (range 0–120). Two-step cluster analysis was used to create data-driven goal pur…

gNOMO: a multi-omics pipeline for integrated host and microbiome analysis of non-model organisms

2020

The study of bacterial symbioses has grown exponentially in the recent past. However, existing bioinformatic workflows of microbiome data analysis do commonly not integrate multiple meta-omics levels and are mainly geared toward human microbiomes. Microbiota are better understood when analyzed in their biological context; that is together with their host or environment. Nevertheless, this is a limitation when studying non-model organisms mainly due to the lack of well-annotated sequence references. Here, we present gNOMO, a bioinformatic pipeline that is specifically designed to process and analyze non-model organism samples of up to three meta-omics levels: metagenomics, metatranscriptomic…
