Promotions and Earnings – Gender or Merit? Evidence from Longitudinal Personnel Data

This study examines the determinants of promotions, performance evaluations and earnings using unique longitudinal data from the personnel records of a large university. The study focuses on the role of gender in remuneration using, first, information on the complexity ratings of job tasks to define promotions on job ladders and, second, information on objective individual productivity. The study finds that individual research productivity was an important determinant of promotions and earnings. The results indicate that gender has no effect on the probability of being promoted, conditional on productivity, nor does it play a role in the performance evaluation of employees. The paper considers the analysis of a traveling panel, submerged in axially flowing fluid. In order to accurately model the dynamics and stability of a lightweight moving material, the interaction between the material and the surrounding air must be taken into account. The lightweight material leads to the inertial contribution of the surrounding air to the acceleration of the panel becoming significant. The paper is devoted to studying and prevention of a special kind of oscillations-the Pilot Involved Oscillations (PIOs) which may appear in man-machine closed-loop dynamical systems. The PIO of categories II and III are defined as essentially non-linear unintended steady fluctuations of the piloted aircraft, generated due to pilot efforts to control the aircraft with a high precision. The main non-linear factor leading to the PIO is, generally, rate limitations of the aircraft control surfaces, resulting in a delay in the response of the aircraft to pilot commands. We validate eleven syntaxa (eight associations and three alliances) of tall-forb vegetation that were published earlier as nomina provisoria according to the International Code of Phytosociological Nomenclature. The validation concerns syntaxa of tall-forb vegetation of the class Prangetea ulopterae Klein 1987 reported from Pamir-Alai and western Tian Shan Mountains (Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan). Esimerkiksi ostoskeskuksissa olevat älykkäät defibrillaattorit antavat maallikoillekin mahdollisuuden antaa tehokasta ensiapua sydänkohtaukseen. Tietotekniikan käyttäminen lääkintälaitteissa tuo mahdollisuuksien lisäksi uhkia. Tässä tutkielmassa perehdytään siihen, miten standardit ja testaaminen edistävät kyberturvallisuutta, uhkien torjumista.
