Implementation and Deployment Evaluation of the DMAMAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Actuator Networks

2016

Abstract The increased application of wireless technologies including Wireless Sensor Actuator Networks (WSAN) in industry has given rise to a plethora of protocol designs. These designs target metrics ranging from energy efficiency to real-time constraints. Protocol design typically starts with a requirements specification, and continues with analytic and model-based simulation analysis. State-of- the-art network simulators provide extensive physical environment emulation, but still have limitations due to model abstractions. Deployment testing on actual hardware is therefore vital in order to validate implementability and usability in the real environment. The contribution of this article…

Analysis and Visualization of Product Memory Layout in IP-XACT

2017

Modern ASIC and FPGA based embedded products use model based design, in which both hardware and software are developed in parallel. Previously HW was completed first and the information handed over to SW team, typically in the form of register tables. The information was even manually copied to SW code, making any changes error-prone and laborious. IP-XACT is the most feasible standard to model HW also for the SW needs. The HW design connectivity and overall memory layout may change due to component instantiations, configurations and conditional operation states, which makes it difficult to create register tables even for documentation. Current register design tools fall short in serving th…

Knowledge-based verification of concatenative programming patterns inspired by natural language for resource-constrained embedded devices

2020

We propose a methodology to verify applications developed following programming patterns inspired by natural language that interact with physical environments and run on resource-constrained interconnected devices. Natural language patterns allow for the reduction of intermediate abstraction layers to map physical domain concepts into executable code avoiding the recourse to ontologies, which would need to be shared, kept up to date, and synchronized across a set of devices. Moreover, the computational paradigm we use for effective distributed execution of symbolic code on resource-constrained devices encourages the adoption of such patterns. The methodology is supported by a rule-based sys…

Value added taxes on electronic commerce: Obstacles to the EU Commission’s approach

2000

While e-commerce is developing tremendously fast, domestic politics and legislation labour to keep up with the dynamics of the new technology. Among other things, fiscal law is a particularly explosive area. Here, the current proposal of the EU Commission is to apply the already existing value added tax to e-commerce. By doing so, the Commission hopes to prevent the massive threatened shortfall in tax revenue. How is this approach of the Commission to be judged? Are there any alternatives?

Gesture Modeling by Hanklet-Based Hidden Markov Model

2015

In this paper we propose a novel approach for gesture modeling. We aim at decomposing a gesture into sub-trajectories that are the output of a sequence of atomic linear time invariant (LTI) systems, and we use a Hidden Markov Model to model the transitions from the LTI system to another. For this purpose, we represent the human body motion in a temporal window as a set of body joint trajectories that we assume are the output of an LTI system. We describe the set of trajectories in a temporal window by the corresponding Hankel matrix (Hanklet), which embeds the observability matrix of the LTI system that produced it. We train a set of HMMs (one for each gesture class) with a discriminative a…

Harmony perception and regularity of spike trains in a simple auditory model

2013

A probabilistic approach for investigating the phenomena of dissonance and consonance in a simple auditory sensory model, composed by two sensory neurons and one interneuron, is presented. We calculated the interneuron’s firing statistics, that is the interspike interval statistics of the spike train at the output of the interneuron, for consonant and dissonant inputs in the presence of additional "noise", representing random signals from other, nearby neurons and from the environment. We find that blurry interspike interval distributions (ISIDs) characterize dissonant accords, while quite regular ISIDs characterize consonant accords. The informational entropy of the non-Markov spike train …

Kontribusi satwa dalam menunjang ketahanan pangan masyarakat Distrik Tembuni Kabupaten Teluk Bintuni

2018

The biodiversity of wild animals in the Tembuni District has the potential of fulfilling nutrition and the economy for the community, but the condition of the area which is still constrained by limited access and still using traditional hunting techniques which influences the level of public consumption of wild animal. This condition has an influence on the pattern of consumption and food security, most of the people of the world.  This study aims to identify the description of the region, the characteristics of the population and the potential of hunted animals used by the 4 villages in Tembuni District, namely Bangun Mulya, Mogoi Baru, Tembuni and Araisum villages, so that it can be seen …

Energy Efficiency Evaluation of Dynamic Partial Reconfiguration in Field Programmable Gate Arrays: An Experimental Case Study

2018

Both computational performances and energy efficiency are required for the development of any mobile or embedded information processing system. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the latest evolution of these systems, paving the way for advancements in ubiquitous computing. In a context in which a large amount of data is often analyzed and processed, it is mandatory to adapt node logic and processing capabilities with respect to the available energy resources. This paper investigates under which conditions a partially reconfigurable hardware accelerator can provide energy saving in complex processing tasks. The paper also presents a useful analysis of how the dynamic partial reconfiguration te…

Observed changes in the life time and amplitude of the madden-julian oscillation associated with interannual ENSO sea surface temperature anomalies

2007

Abstract The Madden–Julian oscillation (MJO) is analyzed using the reanalysis zonal wind– and satellite outgoing longwave radiation–based indices of Wheeler and Hendon for the 1974–2005 period. The average lifetime of the MJO events varies with season (36 days for events whose central date occurs in December, and 48 days for events in September). The lifetime of the MJO in the equinoctial seasons (March–May and October–December) is also dependent on the state of El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO). During October–December it is only 32 days under El Niño conditions, increasing to 48 days under La Niña conditions, with similar values in northern spring. This difference is due to faster eastw…

Influence of the Madden-Julian Oscillation on East African rainfall. Part I: Intraseasonal variability and regional dependency

2006

The influence of the Madden–Julian Oscillation (MJO) on rainfall amounts over Equatorial East Africa (Kenya and northern Tanzania) is analysed for the period 1979–95 at the intraseasonal (pentad) time-scale. The two rainy seasons (March to May and October to December) are considered. Intraseasonal wet events in East Africa are embedded in large-scale zonal circulation anomaly patterns along the equator, showing distinct eastward propagation. It is further found that these ‘wet’ events display a clear phasing with respect to the MJO cycle. This phasing is expressed as out-of-phase variations between the Highland and the coastal areas. Such a pattern is suggested to reflect different rain-cau…
