Smart camera based on an Embedded HW/SW Co-Processor
2008
Abstract This paper describes an image acquisition and a processing system based on a new coprocessor architecture designed for CMOS sensor imaging. The system exploits the full potential CMOS selective access imaging technology because the coprocessor unit is integrated into the image acquisition loop. The acquisition and coprocessing architecture are compatible with the majority of CMOS sensors. It enables the dynamic selection of a wide variety of acquisition modes as well as the reconfiguration and implementation of high-performance image preprocessing algorithms (calibration, filtering, denoising, binarization, pattern recognition). Furthermore, the processing and data transfer, from t…
FPGA-based concurrent watchdog for real-time control systems
2003
A straightforward and efficient implementation of a custom concurrent watchdog processor for real-time control systems is presented. Emphasis is given to the techniques used for on-line checking the main processor activity without adding overhead, and to the advantages of a field programmable gate array implementation.
Implementing an embedded system to identify possible COVID-19 suspects using thermovision cameras
2020
The main goal of this paper is to prove that by combining thermal vision cameras and image processing with many deep learning classification algorithms we developed an effective embedded system with high applicability in this critical period caused by COVID-19 pandemic disease. Using fixed and mobile thermal cameras we envisioned and developed a real time temperature screening capable of sending alarm signals over network or by SMS to local authorities along with multiple detection metrics such as the age, the gender, the facial emotion, the GPS location where the alarm went off, the temperature reading from the human face and also if the subject is wearing or not a medical face mask.
Hidden oscillations in SPICE simulation of two-phase Costas loop with non-linear VCO
2016
Simulation is widely used for analysis of Costas loop based circuits. However it may be a non-trivial task, because incorrect choice of integration parameters may lead to qualitatively wrong conclusions. In this work the importance of choosing appropriate parameters and simulation model is discussed. It is shown that hidden oscillations may not be found by simulation in SPICE, however it can be predicted by analytical methods. peerReviewed
Mesonic enhancement of the weak axial charge and its effect on the half-lives and spectral shapes of first-forbidden J+↔J− decays
2018
The effects of the enhancement of the axial-charge matrix element γ5 were studied in medium heavy and heavy nuclei for first-forbidden J+↔J− decay transitions using the nuclear shell model. Noticeable dependence on the enhancement ϵMEC of the axial-charge matrix element, as well as on the value of the axial-vector coupling constant gA was found in the spectral shapes of $^{93}$Y, $^{95}$Sr, and $^{97}$Y. The importance of the spectrum of $^{138}$Cs in the determination of gA is discussed. Half-life analyses in the A≈95 and A≈135 regions were done, and consistent results gA≈0.90, 0.75, and 0.65, corresponding to the three enhancement scenarios ϵMEC=1.4, 1.7, and 2.0, were obtained. Computational investigation and experimental considerations for the classical implementation of a full adder on SO2 by optical pump-probe schemes
2008
International audience; Following the scheme recently proposed by Remacle and Levine Phys. Rev. A 73, 033820 2006 , we investigate the concrete implementation of a classical full adder on two electronic states X˜ 1A1 and C ˜ 1B2 of the SO2 molecule by optical pump-probe laser pulses using intuitive and counterintuitive stimulated Raman adiabatic passage excitation schemes. The resources needed for providing the inputs and reading out are discussed, as well as the conditions for achieving robustness in both the intuitive and counterintuitive pump-dump sequences. The fidelity of the scheme is analyzed with respect to experimental noise and two kinds of perturbations: The coupling to the neigh…
Prevalence of biliary lithiasis in the elderly people of a small town in Sicily
1992
The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of biliary lithiasis (BL) and its major associated factors in the elderly people of a small town in Sicily. All inhabitants over the age of 65 were interviewed and underwent a general physical examination, blood tests and ultrasonography of the gallbladder and biliary tracts. The final group included 328 subjects (162 men and 166 women), representing 63.1% of the population asked to participate, with a mean age of 74.3 +/- 6.8 years (range 65-95). The prevalence of BL (lithiasis in progress + subjects cholecystectomized for previous calculosis) was 18.6%. No male subject had been cholecystectomized. Prevalence was higher in women …
