This paper focuses on the modeling, simulation, and experimental verification of wideband single-input single-output (SISO) mobile fading channels for indoor propagation environments. The indoor reference channel model is derived from a geometrical rectangle scattering model, which consists of an infinite number of scatterers. It is assumed that the scatterers are exponentially distributed over the two-dimensional (2D) horizontal plane of a rectangular room. Face tracking and recognition: from algorithm to implementation

This paper describes a system capable of realizing a face detection and tracking in video sequences. In developing this system, we have used a RBF neural network to locate and categorize faces of different dimensions. The face tracker can be applied to a video communication system which allows the users to move freely in front of the camera while communicating. The system works at several stages. At first, we extract useful parameters by a low-pass filtering to compress data and we compose our codebook vectors. Then, the RBF neural network realizes a face detection and tracking on a specific board.

Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA), the most common inherited ataxia, is a neurodegenerative disease caused by a reduction in the levels of the mitochondrial protein frataxin, the function of which remains a controversial matter. Several therapeutic approaches are being developed to increase frataxin expression and reduce the intramitochondrial iron aggregates and oxidative damage found in this disease. This study aims to compare binary logistic regression (BLR) and stochastic gradient treeboost (SGT) methods in assessing landslide susceptibility within the Mediterranean region for multiple-occurrence regional landslide events. A test area was selected in the north-eastern sector of Sicily (southern Italy) where thousands of debris flows and debris avalanches triggered on the first October 2009 due to an extreme storm. Steered Response Power Localization of Acoustic Passband Signals

The vast majority of localization approaches using phase transform (PHAT) consider that the sources of interest are wideband low-pass sources. While this may be the usual case for common audio signals such as speech, PHAT methods are affected negatively by modulation artifacts when the sources to be localized are passband signals. In these cases, steered response power PHAT localization becomes less robust. This letter analyzes the form of generalized cross-correlation functions with PHAT when passband acoustic signals are considered, proposing approaches for increasing the localization performance through the mitigation of these negative effects.
