"Figure 21" of "Ground and excited charmonium state production in p+p collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV"
2023
Rapidity dependence of the $J/\psi$ yield combining dielectron ($|y|$ < 0.35 - full squares) with dimuon channels (1.2 < $|y|$ < 2.4 - full circles) along with the fits used to estimate the total cross section. Uncertainties are point-to-point uncorrelated (uncorr.) (statistical and uncorrelated systematic uncertainties) and correlated systematic (corr.) uncertainties. The global uncertainty is 10%.

Transverse momentum dependence of $J/\psi$ and $\psi^{\prime}$ yields in $|y|$ < 0.35, and ${\psi^{\prime}}/{J/\psi}$ ratio together with ratios obtained in other experiments. Uncertainties are point-to-point uncorrelated (uncorr.) (statistical and uncorrelated systematic uncertainties) and correlated systematic (corr.) uncertainties. The global uncertainty is 10%.
Beta-spectrum shapes of forbidden β decays
2018
The neutrinoless [Formula: see text] decay of atomic nuclei continues to attract fervent interest due to its potential to confirm the possible Majorana nature of the neutrino, and thus the nonconservation of the lepton number. At the same time, the direct dark matter experiments are looking for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) through their scattering on nuclei. The neutrino-oscillation experiments on reactor antineutrinos base their analyses on speculations of [Formula: see text]-spectrum shapes of nuclear decays, thus leading to the notorious “reactor antineutrino anomaly.” In all these experimental efforts, one encounters the problem of [Formula: see text]-spectrum shapes of…
"Once a year the dead live for one day": Disease, Death and Decay in Malcolm Lowry's "Under the Volcano"
2018
Fittingly for the major preoccupations of Malcolm Lowry’s Under the Volcano, its action takes place on the Day of the Dead. Yet the carnivalesque, affirmative aspects of the Mexican holiday are hardly depicted in the text. Instead, it is obsessed with the shadow of imminent death emanating from Geoffrey Firmin, the alcoholic protagonist, who, on the macrocosmic scale, represents the apocalypse of the world on the brink of war. References to physical and mental disease, decay and death abound: the Consul’s deteriorating health, paranoid delusions and mental breakdown due to his dipsomania; his and Yvonne’s eventual deaths; Firmin’s alleged involvement in the burning alive of the German offic…
Disease, Death and Decay as Exemplified by Daniel Defoe's "A Journal of the Plague Year" (1722)
2018
The history of 17th-century London was strappingly marked by events connected with death on a massive scale: the plague of 1665, which took the toll of around 100,000 lives, and the great fire of 1666, which destroyed the homes of 70,000 inhabitants, causing death to an unknown number of Londoners, whose bodies had melted in the heat. This article attempts, primarily, to explore the images of, first, the fatal disease and, then, death and decay as presented in Daniel Defoe’s renowned account of the plague, alongside his narrative techniques he utilised in it to make his portrayals of people’s personal tragedies more vivid and credible to his readers decades later.
First results of the experiment to search for 2β decay of 106Cd with the help of 106CdWO4 crystal scintillators
2011
An experiment to search for 2β processes in 106Cd with the help of 106CdWO4 crystal scintillator (mass of 215 g), enriched in 106Cd up to 66 %, is in progress at the Gran Sasso National Laboratories of the INFN (Italy). After 1320 h of data taking, limits on double beta processes in 106Cd have been established on the level of 1019 − 1020 yr, in particular (all the results at 90 % C.L.): T1/2(0ν2ε) > 3.6 · 1020 yr, T1/2(2νεβ+) > 7.2 · 1019 yr, and T1/2(2ν2β+) > 2.5 · 1020 yr. Resonant 0ν2ε processes have been restricted as T1/2(0ν2K) > 1.4 · 1020 yr and T1/2(0νLK) > 3.2 · 1020 yr. A possible resonant enhancement of the 0ν2ε processes is estimated in the framework of the QRPA approach.
0νββ and 2νββ nuclear matrix elements in the interacting boson model with isospin restoration
2015
We introduce a method for isospin restoration in the calculation of nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) for 0νββ and 2νββ decay within the framework of the microscopic interacting boson model (IBM-2). With this method, we calculate the NMEs for all processes of interest in 0νβ−β− and 2νβ−β− and in 0νβ+β+, 0νECβ+, R0νECEC, 2νβ+β+, 2νECβ+, and 2νECEC. With this method, the Fermi matrix elements for 2νββ vanish, and those for 0νββ are considerably reduced. peerReviewed
Neutrino-nuclear responses for astro-neutrinos, single beta decays and double beta decays
2019
Neutrino–nuclear responses associated with astro-neutrinos, single beta decays and double beta decays are crucial in studies of neutrino properties of interest for astro-particle physics. The present report reviews briefly recent studies of the neutrino–nuclear responses from both experimental and theoretical points of view in order to obtain a consistent understanding of the many facets of the neutrino–nuclear responses. Subjects discussed in this review include (i) experimental studies of neutrino–nuclear responses by means of single beta decays, charge-exchange nuclear reactions, muon- photon- and neutrino–nuclear reactions, and nucleon-transfer reactions, (ii) implications of and discus…

Double-β decay within a consistent deformed approach
2015
In this paper we present a timely application of the proton-neutron deformed quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pn-dQRPA), designed to describe in a consistent way the 1+ Gamow-Teller states in oddodd deformed nuclei. For this purpose we apply a projection before variation procedure by using a singleparticle basis with projected angular momentum, provided by the diagonalization of a spherical mean field plus quadrupole-quadrupole interaction. The residual Hamiltonian contains pairing plus proton-neutron dipole terms in particle-hole and particle-particle channels, with constant strengths. As an example we describe the two-neutrino double-beta (2νββ) decay of 150Nd to the ground state…
