Mast cells partly contribute to allergic enteritis development: Findings in two different mast cell-deficient mice

2021

Allergic enteritis (AE) is a gastrointestinal form of food allergy. The presence of mast cells and granulocytes has been detected in the inflamed tissues in AE. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the role of mast cells in AE development using two mast cell-deficient mouse strains: KIT(W-sh/W-sh) bearing the W-sash (W(sh)) inversion mutation and Cpa3Cre/+, which lack mast cells due to Cre-mediated mast cell eradication, were used in an AE experimental model. The development of clinical symptoms (e.g. drop in body temperature and weight loss) were abolished in both strains, whereas inflammatory levels of AE (e.g. villous atrophy, edema, and granulocyte accumulation) were reduced mainly in K…

Mean Platelet Volume and Arterial Stiffness - Clinical Relationship and Common Genetic Variability

2017

AbstractVessel wall stiffening is an important clinical parameter, but it is unknown whether platelets, key elements in the pathogenesis of arterial thrombosis, are associated with arterial stiffness. The present studies sought to determine whether mean platelet volume (MPV), a potential marker of platelet activation, is linked to vascular elasticity as assessed by the augmentation index (AIx), in 15,010 individuals from the population-based Gutenberg Health Study. Multivariable analysis showed that MPV in both males (β 0.776; 95thCI [0.250;1.16]; p = 0.0024) and females (β 0.881[0.328;1.43]; p = 0.0018) is strongly associated with AIx. Individuals with MPV and AIx above the sex-specific me…

Quasiparticle alignments and α-decay fine structure of 175Pt

2014

Excited states and decay properties of 175Pt have been investigated using the 92Mo(86Sr,2pn) fusion-evaporation reaction. The JUROGAM I γ -ray spectrometer and the GREAT spectrometer were used in conjunction with the gas-filled recoil separator RITU for the measurement of the radiation at the target and focal plane positions, respectively. Two new band structures, assigned to be based on the I π = (7/2 −) ground state in 175Pt, have been established and the known yrast band has been extended up to I π = (49/2 +). Rotational properties of the excited states in 175Pt have been investigated within the cranked shell-model formalism. The low-frequency changes in the alignments of the positive- a…

Collective excitations in the transitional nuclei 163Re and 165Re

2015

Excited states in the neutron-deficient nuclei 163 75 Re88 and 165 75 Re90 were populated in the 106Cd(60Ni, p2nγ ) and 92Mo(78Kr, 3p2nγ ) fusion-evaporation reactions at bombarding energies of 270 and 380 MeV, respectively. γ rays were detected at the target position using the JUROGAM spectrometer while recoiling ions were separated in-flight by the RITU gas-filled recoil separator and implanted in the GREAT spectrometer. The energy level schemes for 163Re and 165Re were identified using recoil-decay correlation techniques. At low spin, the yrast bands of these isotopes consist of signature partner bands based on a single πh11/2 quasiproton configuration. The bands display large energy spl…

Production of refractory elements close to the Z=N line using the ion-guide technique

1998

Production of neutron-deficient isotopes of refractory elements in the A = 80-88 region was studied using the IGISOL technique and the 165 MeV Si-32 + Ni-nat reaction. Radioactive isotopes of Y through Mo could be produced up to the M-T = + 1 line. New information on the decay of the A = 82 and 85 nuclei, including a more detailed decay scheme and more accurate half-life for Y-82, was obtained. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. L’élongation des loges chez les foraminifères planctoniques du Crétacé inférieur: une adaptation à la sous-oxygénation des eaux?

1998

Abstract Planktic foraminifera with radially elongated chambers appeared on four occasions in the early Cretaceous of the Vocontian Basin (SE France). These appearances coincided with or followed the deposition of organic rich levels which are evidence of hypoxic to anoxic conditions at the sea-floor. In addition, oxygen deficient surface waters are inferred from the occasional presence of Hedbergellas with deformed (insufficiently calcified) walls. It is suggested that the elongation of the chambers of these foraminifera was an adaptive response to the low oxygen content of surface waters, the increased surface area of the test allowing better gas exchange with sea water and the intake of …
