Searches for rare or forbidden semileptonic charm decays

2011

We present searches for rare or forbidden charm decays of the form $X_c^+\to h^\pm\ell^\mp\ell^{(\prime)+}$, where $X_c^+$ is a charm hadron ($D^+$, $D^+_s$, or $\Lambda_c^+$), $h^\pm$ is a pion, kaon, or proton, and $\ell^{(\prime)\pm}$ is an electron or muon. The analysis is based on $384 fb^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at or close to the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the BaBar detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. No significant signal is observed for any of the 35 decay modes that are investigated. We establish 90% confidence-level upper limits on the branching fractions between $1 \times 10^{-6}$ and $44 \times 10^{-6}$ depending on the channel. In most…

Measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry of e(+)e(-)-]z-]b(b)over-bar using prompt leptons and a lifetime tag

1995

The forward-backward asymmetry of the process e+e-→Z→b {Mathematical expression} has been measured using events collected by the DELPHI experiment during the 1991 and 1992 LEP runs. This data sample corresponded to 884 000 hadronic Z decays at a centre-of-mass energy {Mathematical expression}. The tagging of b-quark events was performed using two approaches; the first was based on the semileptonic decay channels b→X+μ and b→X+e, the second used a lifetime tag with jet-charge reconstruction. The results of these two methods were combined to give {Mathematical expression} With the semileptonic sample, the forward-backward asymmetry of the process e+e-→Z→ {Mathematical expression} was also mea…

Measurement of Semileptonic B Decays into Orbitally Excited Charmed Mesons

2009

We present a study of B decays into semileptonic final states containing charged and neutral D-1(2420) and D-2*(2460). The analysis is based on a data sample of 208 fb(-1) collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC. With a simultaneous fit to four different decay chains, the semileptonic branching fractions are extracted from measurements of the mass difference Delta m = m(D**) - m(D) distribution. Product branching fractions are determined to be B(B+ -> D(1)(0)l(+)nu(l)) x B(D-1(0) -> D*+pi(-)) = (2.97 +/- 0.17 +/- 0.17) x 10(-3), B(B+ -> D-2*l(+)nu(e)) x B(D-2*(0) -> D(*)+pi(-)) = (2.29 +/- 0.23 +/- 0.21) x 10(-3), B(B-0 -> D…

Improved Upper Limit on the Neutrino Mass from a Direct Kinematic Method by KATRIN

2019

We report on the neutrino mass measurement result from the first four-week science run of the Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino experiment KATRIN in spring 2019. Beta-decay electrons from a high-purity gaseous molecular tritium source are energy analyzed by a high-resolution MAC-E filter. A fit of the integrated electron spectrum over a narrow interval around the kinematic end point at 18.57 keV gives an effective neutrino mass square value of (−1.0−1.1+0.9) eV2. From this, we derive an upper limit of 1.1 eV (90% confidence level) on the absolute mass scale of neutrinos. This value coincides with the KATRIN sensitivity. It improves upon previous mass limits from kinematic measurements by almost a …

Cloud motion detection from infrared satellite images

2002

The estimation of cloud motion from a sequence of satellite images can be considered a challenging task due to the complexity of phenomena implied. Being a non-rigid motion and implying non-linear events, most motion models are not suitable and new algorithms have to be developed. We propose a novel technique, combining a Block Matching Algorithm (BMA) and a best candidate block search along with a vector median regularisation.

Simultaneous detection of the seven main tomato-infecting RNA viruses by two multiplex reverse transcription polymerase chain reactions

2012

Cucumber mosaic virus, Tomato spotted wilt virus, Tomato mosaic virus, Tomato chlorosis virus, Pepino mosaic virus, Torrado tomato virus and Tomato infectious chlorosis virus cause serious damage and significant economic losses in tomato crops worldwide. The early detection of these pathogens is essential for preventing the viruses from spreading and improving their control. In this study, a procedure based on two multiplex RT-PCRs was developed for the sensitive and reliable detection of these seven viruses. Serial dilutions of positive controls were analysed by this methodology, and the results were compared with those obtained by ELISA and singleplex versions of RT-PCR. The multiplex and…

Time Series Corrections and Analyses in Thermal Remote Sensing

2013

The time span of surface thermal data bases now reaches a few decades. However, studies using surface thermal time series are seldom, due to the difficulty of obtaining temporally coherent estimations for this parameter. Applications for surface thermal multitemporal analysis range from climate change studies and modeling to anomaly detection for natural or industrial hazard detection. This chapter presents methods to improve the temporal coherence of temperature time series, through data reconstruction of atmospheric and cloud contaminated observations, and through the correction of the orbital drift effect which hinders the use of the longest data sets. Then, methods for the analysis of t…

A Smart Sensing Method for Real- Time Monitoring of Low Voltage Series-Arc-Fault

2020

This paper proposes a smart sensing method for real-time monitoring of low voltage series arc fault. It is based on the wavelet coefficient mean-difference algorithm and the four spikes appearing within two fundamental periods criterion with adaptive threshold. The method also uses the hard thresholding wavelet denoising with the universal threshold. An arc fault factor and a load adaptation factor are introduced and combined with a correction factor, so allowing the selection of the adaptive threshold in real-time and the series arc fault detection.

Nanosensor for Sensitive Detection of the New Psychedelic Drug 25I-NBOMe.

2020

[EN] This work reports the synthesis, characterization, and sensing behavior of a hybrid nanodevice for the detection of the potent abuse drug 25I-NBOMe. The system is based on mesoporous silica nanoparticles, loaded with a fluorescent dye, functionalized with a serotonin derivative and capped with the 5-HT2A receptor antibody. In the presence of 25I-NBOMe the capping antibody is displaced, leading to pore opening and rhodamine B release. This delivery was ascribed to 5-HT2A receptor antibody detachment from the surface due to its stronger coordination with 25I-NBOMe present in the solution. The prepared nanodevice allowed the sensitive (limit of detection of 0.6 mm) and selective recogniti…

Use of TaqMan® real-time PCR for rapid detection of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi

2014

We evaluated the performances of a newly designed real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay using TaqMan® probes to detectSalmonellaTyphi. TaqMan® real-time PCR assays were performed by designed primers and probe based on thestaGgene for detectingS.Typhi. The specificity of the assay was evaluated on 15Salmonellaserovars. The analytical specificity was evaluated on 20 non-Salmonellamicroorganisms. The analytical sensitivity was assessed using decreasing DNA quantities ofS.Typhi ATCC 19430. Finally the detection capability of the TaqMan® real-time PCR assay on isolates recovered from patients withSalmonellainfections was compared to the conventional PCR assay. OnlyS.Typhi strain had po…
