Separation and determination of alkylglycosides by liquid chromatography with electrospray mass spectrometric detection

2007

The separation of alkylpolyglycosides by liquid chromatography with electrospray mass spectrometric detection, using either an alkylamide or a cyanopropyl column, and acetonitrile/water mixtures as mobile phases, was developed. Using the alkylamide column and isocratic elution, the alpha- and beta-epimers and ring isomers (pyranosides and furanosides) of the alkylmonoglycosides were resolved. The ring isomers were also resolved in a much shorter time using the cyanopropyl column with gradient elution. Using these columns, the isomers of the alkyldiglycosides and alkyltriglycosides were also partially resolved. The equilibration time was much shorter with the cyanopropyl column, which was se…

Host-guest interactions for extracting antibiotics with a γ-cyclodextrin poly(glycidyl-co-ethylene dimethacrylate) hybrid sorbent

2021

Abstract A procedure for the solid-phase extraction of antibiotics (enoxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, and sparfloxacin) in water has been developed. The sorbent used is based on a poly(glycidyl-co-ethylene dimethacrylate) network, whose previously modified surface has been functionalized with γ-cyclodextrin through a click-chemistry reaction. The architecture of the material has been characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, N2 adsorption-desorption, Raman spectroscopy, confocal microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy, showing good capability to be used as a filler for extraction cartridges. The optimization of the extraction methodology shows good intra-day and inter…

Characterization of proteinaceous glues in old paintings by separation of the o-phtalaldehyde derivatives of their amino acids by liquid chromatograp…

2005

A HPLC-fluorescence method for characterization of proteinaceous glues from binding media used in pictorial works of art prior to conservation or restoration treatment is proposed. Fluorescence derivatization of amino acids released by acid hydrolysis of standard proteins is studied. The derivatization reagent was o-phtalaldehyde with 2-mercaptoethanol as catalyst. Mobile phase was a programmed gradient among two eluents (water buffered at pH 5.8 wit 5% THF, and methanol) and is able to satisfactorily resolve the amino acid derivatives in 45min. Peak area ratios among amino acid derivatives and the leucine derivative are useful to characterize the proteins. The method shows good sensitivity…

Dendrimer-encapsulated and cored metal nanoparticles for electrochemical nanobiosensing

2014

Abstract We discuss nanosized dendrimers from the point of view of electrochemical-biosensor design. We review electrochemical biosensors based on dendrimer-encapsulated metal nanoparticles (NPs) and their various applications (e.g., measurement of small biological and toxic molecules, detection of DNA, and immunosensing of disease biomarkers). Finally, we discuss some future applications of electrochemical biosensors based on dendrimer-encapsulated metal NPs.

Photon yields and decay times of cross luminescence in ionic crystals

1992

The authors report on the scintillation properties of the ternary inorganic crystals KMgF/sub 3/, KYF/sub 4/:Rb, K/sub 2/YF/sub 5/, KLuF/sub 4/, RbMgF/sub 3/, KZnF/sub 3/, BaTm/sub 2/F/sub 8/, LiYF/sub 4/:Nd, and BaF/sub 2/:Rb. The scintillation light output of these crystals was estimated from the X-ray-induced emission spectra. Optical absorption spectra and decay time spectra were also measured and are presented. The first four crystals produced cross-luminescence (CL) with a decay time of about 1.5 ns. CL was not observed for the other crystals. >

Relaxation of electron-hole pairs and scintillation mechanism in alkali halide crystals

1997

Abstract The mechanism of the ionizing radiation energy transfer from host lattice to luminescence centers is discussed taking into account the results of the recent experimental investigations of electron-hole pair relaxation in alkali iodide crystals. The high scintillation yield in CsI-Tl, CsI-Na and partially in Nal-Tl crystals is explained by the process of the motion and capture of a one-center self-trapped exciton by impurity ions.

Analysis of odour and taste problems in high-density polyethene

1998

Abstract The compounds that cause off-flavours in plastics, have been recognized mainly as carbonyl compounds (aldehydes, ketones and esters). They occur in low concentrations, and due to their low-threshold odour concentrations, their typical odours were identified. Most of these off-flavour compounds are volatile. Chemical analysis of smelling compounds requires a very sensitive method with a high-resolution capability. The analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in high density polyethene (HD-PE) granules and waters in which the granules have been shaken for 4 h, were carried out by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry–sniffing system (GC–MS–SNIFF) and by gas chromatography–fourier…

Comparative assessment of solid-phase extraction clean-up procedures, GC columns and perfluoroacylation reagents for determination of type B trichoth…

2005

Abstract Various solid-phase extraction (SPE) procedures for clean-up, two perfluoroacylation reagents (pentafluoropropionic anhydride (PFPA) and heptafluorobutyric anhydride (HFBA)) and two chromatographic columns (HP-1701 and HP-5) have been assessed comparatively to achieve the determination of type B trichothecenes (deoxynivalenol (DON), nivalenol (NIV), 3- and 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol (3- and 15-ADON)) in wheat grain by gas chromatography (GC)–electron-capture detection (ECD). Spiked wheat samples were extracted with acetonitrile–water (84:16, v/v). Tested SPE procedures were MycoSep 225 column, Florisil and different cartridges prepared in the laboratory with mixtures of various sorben…

Biogenic volatile organoiodine and organobromine hydrocarbons in the Atlantic Ocean from 42°N to 72°S

1997

During the cruise ANT X/1 and 2 of the research vessel Polarstern from November 1991 to March 1992, 39 surface water samples of the Atlantic Ocean from 42°N to 72.5°S were collected and analysed for their concentration of volatile iodinated and brominated hydrocarbons. The concentration of chlorophyll-a was used as an indicator for phytoplankton, which is one of the main producers of iodinated and brominated compounds in the ocean. For determination of chlorophyll-a, fluorescence spectroscopy was applied, whereas the measurement of halogenated volatile hydrocarbons was carried out by a purge and trap system with subsequent gas chromatographic separation and detection by an electron capture …

Risk assessment of beauvericin, enniatins and fusaproliferin present in follow-up infant formula by in vitro evaluation of the duodenal and colonic b…

2014

Abstract In this study, 72 samples of follow-up infant formula of Spanish origin were analyzed for the presence of the mycotoxins beauvericin (BEA), enniatins (ENs) (A, A1, B, B1), and fusaproliferin (FUS). The samples analyzed were extracted three times with ethyl acetate and then the mycotoxins were identified and quantified using a liquid chromatography (LC) coupled to a diode array detector (DAD). The positive samples analyzed in this study were digested through a simulated gastrointestinal digestion model, which permit to simulate the physiological condition of the human gastrointestinal tract (duodenal and colonic compartments) in order to assess the bioaccessibility of the bioactive …
