Design and implementation of the AMIGA embedded system for data acquisition
2021
The successful installation, commissioning, and operation of the Pierre Auger Observatory would not have been possible without the strong commitment and effort from the technical and admin-istrative staff in Malargtie. We are very grateful to the following agencies and organizations for financial support: Comision Nacional de Energla Atomica, Agencia Nacional de Promocion Cientffica y Tec-nologica (ANPCyT) , Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientfficas y Tecnicas (CONICET) , Gobierno de la Provincia de Mendoza, Municipalidad de Malargtie, NDM Holdings and Valle Las Leilas, in gratitude for their continuing cooperation over land access, Argentina; the Australian Research Council; Conselho…
Calibration of the underground muon detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory
2021
To obtain direct measurements of the muon content of extensive air showers with energy above $10^{16.5}$ eV, the Pierre Auger Observatory is currently being equipped with an underground muon detector (UMD), consisting of 219 10 $\mathrm{m^2}$-modules, each segmented into 64 scintillators coupled to silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs). Direct access to the shower muon content allows for the study of both of the composition of primary cosmic rays and of high-energy hadronic interactions in the forward direction. As the muon density can vary between tens of muons per m$^2$ close to the intersection of the shower axis with the ground to much less than one per m$^2$ when far away, the necessary bro…
Brain-Activity-Driven Real-Time Music Emotive Control
2013
Active music listening has emerged as a study field that aims to enable listeners to interactively control music. Most of active music listening systems aim to control music aspects such as playback, equalization, browsing, and retrieval, but few of them aim to control expressive aspects of music to convey emotions. In this study our aim is to enrich the music listening experience by allowing listeners to control expressive parameters in music performances using their perceived emotional state, as detected from their brain activity. We obtain electro-encephalogram (EEG) data using a low-cost EEG device and then map this information into a coordinate in the emotional arousalvalence plane. Th…
Musical Feature and Novelty Curve Characterizations as Predictors of Segmentation Accuracy
2017
Novelty detection is a well-established method for analyzing the structure of music based on acoustic descriptors. Work on novelty-based segmentation prediction has mainly concentrated on enhancement of features and similarity matrices, novelty kernel computation and peak detection. Less attention, however, has been paid to characteristics of musical features and novelty curves, and their contribution to segmentation accuracy. This is particularly important as it can help unearth acoustic cues prompting perceptual segmentation and find new determinants of segmentation model performance. This study focused on spectral, rhythmic and harmonic prediction of perceptual segmentation density, whic…
Copper and Palladium NWs for Hydrogen Peroxide detection
2018
H2O2 is a wide used chemical in different field, like in paper and textile industries and pharmaceutical applications. Furthermore, H2O2 concentration in human body is related to glucose concentration because the reaction between glucose and glucosidase produce hydrogen peroxide [1] . Moreover, is used as a biomarker of oxidative stress, being an oxidative specie [2] . For all these reasons, researcher all over the world are working to develop new and novel strategies for in situ, non-invasive and fast detection of this chemical. One of these fields concern the electrochemical sensors, that are sensors with an electrical (current, potential, impedance) output. The surface area the electrode…
Community detection of seismic point processes
2022
In this paper, we combine robin and Local Indicators of Spatio-Temporal Association (LISTA) functions. robin is an R package to assess the robustness of the community structure of a network found by one or more methods to give indications about their reliability. We use it to propose a classification algorithm of events in a spatio-temporal point pattern, by means of the local second-order characteristics and the community detection procedure in network analysis. We demonstrate the proposed procedure on a real data analysis on seismic data.

Long-baseline neutrino oscillation physics potential of the DUNE experiment
2020
The sensitivity of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) to neutrino oscillation is determined, based on a full simulation, reconstruction, and event selection of the far detector and a full simulation and parameterized analysis of the near detector. Detailed uncertainties due to the flux prediction, neutrino interaction model, and detector effects are included. DUNE will resolve the neutrino mass ordering to a precision of 5σσ, for all δCPδCP values, after 2 years of running with the nominal detector design and beam configuration. It has the potential to observe charge-parity violation in the neutrino sector to a precision of 3σσ (5σσ) after an exposure of 5 (10) years, for 50% o…
IceCube-40 String Data: Searching for a Diffuse Flux of Astrophysical Muon Neutrinos
2011
One of the main strategies used to look for astrophysical neutrinos with IceCube is the search for a diffuse flux of high-energy neutrinos from unresolved sources. A search was performed using data from the IceCube detector collected in its half completed configuration in which 40 strings operated between April 2008 and May 2009. 12,877 candidate neutrino events were obtained from this data sample.
Search for contained neutrino events at energies greater than 1 TeV in 2 years of data
2015
The IceCube Neutrino Observatory was designed primarily to search for high-energy (TeV--PeV) neutrinos produced in distant astrophysical objects. Here we present the results of a search for neutrino interactions inside IceCube's instrumented volume between 1 TeV and 1 PeV in 641 days of data taken from 2010--2012. From these data we derive new constraints on the diffuse astrophysical neutrino spectrum,as well as the strongest upper limit yet on the flux of neutrinos from charmed-meson decay in the atmosphere.
