Online Multi-Person Tracking by Tracker Hierarchy

2012

Tracking-by-detection is a widely used paradigm for multi-person tracking but is affected by variations in crowd density, obstacles in the scene, varying illumination, human pose variation, scale changes, etc. We propose an improved tracking-by-detection framework for multi-person tracking where the appearance model is formulated as a template ensemble updated online given detections provided by a pedestrian detector. We employ a hierarchy of trackers to select the most effective tracking strategy and an algorithm to adapt the conditions for trackers' initialization and termination. Our formulation is online and does not require calibration information. In experiments with four pedestrian t…

POLARIZATION-BASED CAR DETECTION

2018

International audience; Road scene understanding is a vital task for driving assistance systems. Robust vehicle detection is a precondition for diverse applications particularly for obstacle avoidance and secure navigation. Color images provide limited information about the physical properties of the object. This results in unstable vehicle detection caused mainly from road scene complexity (strong reflexions, noises and radiometric distortions). Instead, polarimetric images, characteristic of the light wave, can robustly describe important physical properties of the object (e.g., the surface geometric structure, material and roughness etc). This modality gives rich physical informations wh…

Kernel-Based Framework for Multitemporal and Multisource Remote Sensing Data Classification and Change Detection

2008

The multitemporal classification of remote sensing images is a challenging problem, in which the efficient combination of different sources of information (e.g., temporal, contextual, or multisensor) can improve the results. In this paper, we present a general framework based on kernel methods for the integration of heterogeneous sources of information. Using the theoretical principles in this framework, three main contributions are presented. First, a novel family of kernel-based methods for multitemporal classification of remote sensing images is presented. The second contribution is the development of nonlinear kernel classifiers for the well-known difference and ratioing change detectio…

A video-based real-time vehicle counting system using adaptive background method

2008

International audience; This paper presents a video-based solution for real time vehicle detection and counting system, using a surveillance camera mounted on a relatively high place to acquire the traffic video stream. The two main methods applied in this system are: the adaptive background estimation and the Gaussian shadow elimination. The former allows a robust moving detection especially in complex scenes. The latter is based on color space HSV, which is able to deal with different size and intensity shadows. After these two operations, it obtains an image with moving vehicle extracted, and then operation counting is effected by a method called virtual detector.

Optimal Filter Estimation for Lucas-Kanade Optical Flow

2012

Optical flow algorithms offer a way to estimate motion from a sequence of images. The computation of optical flow plays a key-role in several computer vision applications, including motion detection and segmentation, frame interpolation, three-dimensional scene reconstruction, robot navigation and video compression. In the case of gradient based optical flow implementation, the pre-filtering step plays a vital role, not only for accurate computation of optical flow, but also for the improvement of performance. Generally, in optical flow computation, filtering is used at the initial level on original input images and afterwards, the images are resized. In this paper, we propose an image filt…

Fault detection for continuous-time switched systems under asynchronous switching

2013

In this chapter, the problem of FD for continuous-time switched systems under asynchronous switching is investigated. The designed FD filter is assumed to be asynchronous with the original systems. Attention is focused on designing a FD filter such that the estimation error between the residual and the fault is minimized in the sense of H ∞ norm. By employing piecewise Lyapunov function and ADT techniques, a sufficient condition for the existence of such a filter is exploited in terms of certain LMIs. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Estimating Accuracy of Mobile-Masquerader Detection Using Worst-Case and Best-Case Scenario

2006

In order to resist an unauthorized use of the resources accessible through mobile terminals, masquerader detection means can be employed. In this paper, the problem of mobile-masquerader detection is approached as a classification problem, and the detection is performed by an ensemble of one-class classifiers. Each classifier compares a measure describing user behavior or environment with the profile accumulating the information about past behavior and environment. The accuracy of classification is empirically estimated by experimenting with a dataset describing the behavior and environment of two groups of mobile users, where the users within groups are affiliated with each other. It is as…

Are simple striate cells analysers of visual signals both in spatial position as well as in spatial frequency?

1984

According to a modern view, simple cells of the cat striate cortex are considered to operate as apart of Fourier analysis system thus leading to the idea that the operational mechanism of the visual cortex is concerned with the analysis of spatial frequencies. Nevertheless if simple cells are really concerned only with the analysis of spatial frequencies there should exist a strict relationship between their spatial frequency selectivity and the spatial organization of their receptive fields. This is because it is the spatial organization of the spatial frequency detector i.e. the cell's receptive field that determines the cell's spatial frequency selectivity. Since the quantitative analysi…

Deep Learning-Based Real-Time Object Detection in Inland Navigation

2019

International audience; Semi-autonomous and fully-autonomous systems must have knowledge about the objects in their environment to ensure a safe navigation. Modern approaches implement deep learning techniques to train a neural network for object detection. This project will study the effectiveness of using several promising algorithms such as Faster R-CNN, SSD, and different versions of YOLO, to detect, classify, and track objects in near real-time fluvial domain. Since no dataset is available for this purpose in literature, we first started by annotating a dataset of 2488 images with almost 35 400 annotations for training the convolutional neural network architectures. We made this data s…
