Study of Atrp Process for the Grafting of Vinyl Monomers on PVC and PVDF
2014
STUDY OF ATRP PROCESS FOR THE GRAFTING OF VINYL MONOMERS ON PVC AND PVDF Sonia Lanzalaco, Onofrio Scialdone, Alessandro Galia, Rosalia Mauro, Flavia Lazzano Dipartimento di Ingegneria Chimica, Gestionale, Informatica, Meccanica, Viale delle Scienze, Palermo e-mail: sonia.lanzalaco@unipa.it ATRP (atom transfer radical polymerization) has been recently used to prepare graft copolymers with regularly-spaced polymer chains from polymeric macroinitiators that have pendant chemical groups containing radically transferable halogen atoms [1]. The halogen atom serves as initiation site for the polymerization of side chains. Furthermore, Matyjaszewsky and Gennaro showed that an externally applied ele…

From CCSD(T)/aug‐cc‐pVTZ‐J to CCSD(T) complete basis set limit isotropic nuclear magnetic shieldings via affordable DFT/CBS calculations
2011
It is shown that a linear correlation exists between nuclear shielding constants for nine small inorganic and organic molecules (N2, CO, CO2, NH3, CH4, C2H2, C2H4, C2H6 and C6H6) calculated with 47 methods (42 DFT methods, RHF, MP2, SOPPA, SOPPA(CCSD), CCSD(T)) and the aug‐cc‐pVTZ‐J basis set and corresponding complete basis set results, estimated from calculations with the family of polarization‐consistent pcS‐n basis sets. This implies that the remaining basis set error of the aug‐cc‐pVTZ‐J basis set is very similar in DFT and CCSD(T) calculations. As the aug‐cc‐pVTZ‐J basis set is significantly smaller, CCSD(T)/aug‐cc‐pVTZ‐J calculations allow in combination with affordable DFT/pcS‐n com…
Anomaly Detection and Classification of Household Electricity Data : A Time Window and Multilayer Hierarchical Network Approach
2022
With the increasing popularity of the smart grid, huge volumes of data are gathered from numerous sensors. How to classify, store, and analyze massive datasets to facilitate the development of the smart grid has recently attracted much attention. In particular, with the popularity of household smart meters and electricity monitoring sensors, a large amount of data can be obtained to analyze household electricity usage so as to better diagnose the leakage and theft behaviors, identify man-made tampering and data fraud, and detect powerline loss. In this paper, the time window method is first proposed to obtain the features and potential periodicity of household electricity data. Combining th…
Density-functional tight-binding modeling of electromechanics of phosphorene
2018
Single-layer black phosphorus or phosphorene is a two-dimensional material made from a puckered honeycomb structure. It is a semiconductor with a tunable band gap and both its mechanical and electronic properties are highly asymmetric because of the puckering. Recently there has been numerous computational studies and some experimental works trying to bring deeper understanding about this relatively new 2D material. In this study we simulate phosphorene using computationally low-cost density functional tight-binding (DFTB) method to see how stretching, shearing and bending affect its electronic properties. The band structure analysis shows that there is a relation between shearing and bendi…

Forage yield and N2 fixation of Trifolium alexandrinum in pure stand and in mixture with Lolium multiflorum.
2010
The efficiency of grass-legume intercrop systems is affected by various agronomic factors such as crop density, plant spacing and arrangement that may alter the competitive relationships between component crops. This study was aimed to evaluate yield, N concentration, and symbiotic N2 fixation of berseem clover (Trifolium alexandrinum L.) grown in pure stand or in mixture with annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam) either in alternating rows or in the same row. The experiment was conducted in two consecutive growing seasons in a semi-arid Mediterranean environment (Sicily, Italy). Dry matter (DM) yields were similar in the mixed stands and in the berseem pure stand; the annual ryegrass pu…
Palaeoclimatic applications of large databases: developing and testing methods of palaeotemperature reconstruction using nonmarine ostracods
2008
Non-analogue methods for Quaternary palaeoclimatic reconstruction, such as the coleopteran Mutual Climate Range method and the Mutual Ostracod Temperature Range (MOTR) method, use large geographical databases combined with modern climate datasets to establish the modern climate/temperature ranges of species, which can then be applied to the interpretation of fossil assemblages. Such approaches have been criticized for their lack of attention to variation in the distributions of species within their climate ranges. The MOTR method, for example, assumes that a species has an equal probability of occurring anywhere within its temperature range (e.g. mean July air temperature range), but tests …
