Synthesis and X-ray Crystal Structure of New Substituted 3-4′-Bipyrazole Derivatives. Hirshfeld Analysis, DFT and NBO Studies
2021
A new compounds named 3-4′-bipyrazoles 2 and 3 were synthesized in high chemical yield from a reaction of pyran-2,4-diketone 1 with aryl hydrazines under thermal conditions in MeOH. Compound 2 was unambiguously confirmed by single-crystal X-ray analysis. It crystalizes in a triclinic crystal system and space group P-1. Its crystal structure was found to be in good agreement with the spectral characterizations. With the aid of Hirshfeld calculations, the H…H (54.8–55.3%) and H…C (28.3–29.2%) intermolecular contacts are the most dominant, while the O…H (5.8–6.5%), N…H (3.8–4.6%) and C…C (3.0–4.9%) are less dominant. The compound has a polar nature with a net dipole moment of 6.388 Debye. The …
Time-based Chern number in periodically driven systems in the adiabatic limit
2023
To define the topology of driven systems, recent works have proposed synthetic dimensions as a way to uncover the underlying parameter space of topological invariants. Using time as a synthetic dimension, together with a momentum dimension, gives access to a synthetic two-dimensional (2D) Chern number. It is, however, still unclear how the synthetic 2D Chern number is related to the Chern number that is defined from a parametric variable that evolves with time. Here we show that in periodically driven systems in the adiabatic limit, the synthetic 2D Chern number is a multiple of the Chern number defined from the parametric variable. The synthetic 2D Chern number can thus be engineered via h…
Light-Induced Renormalization of the Dirac Quasiparticles in the Nodal-Line Semimetal ZrSiSe
2020
In nodal-line semimetals linearly dispersing states form Dirac loops in the reciprocal space, with high degree of electron-hole symmetry and almost-vanishing density of states near the Fermi level. The result is reduced electronic screening and enhanced correlations between Dirac quasiparticles. Here we investigate the electronic structure of ZrSiSe, by combining time- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy with ab initio density functional theory (DFT) complemented by an extended Hubbard model (DFT +U +V). We show that electronic correlations are reduced on an ultrashort timescale by optical excitation of high-energy electrons-hole pairs, which transiently screen the Coulomb interac…
A DFT investigation of CO oxidation over neutral and cationic gold clusters
2009
Abstract The interaction of CO and O 2 with neutral and positively charged Au 9 and Au 13 clusters was studied using Density Functional Theory. The aim was the understanding of the elementary steps of the low temperature activity of supported gold nanoparticles towards carbon monoxide combustion, that is, the oxidation of CO to CO 2 in presence of dioxygen molecules. The adsorption of a single CO molecule gives rise to a substantial electronic rearrangement on both neutral and cationic gold clusters. On the contrary, the adsorption of dioxygen produces an electron transfer from neutral gold clusters to the O 2 , while the interaction with cationic Au nanoparticles is simply electrostatic. C…
Solvent impact on the planarity and aromaticity of free and monohydrated zinc phthalocyanine: a theoretical study
2017
A theoretical investigation on the planarity of molecular structure of zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) and its aromaticity has been performed using B3LYP and M06-2X density functionals combined with selected Pople-type basis sets. The effect of the applied calculation method on the optimized structure of ZnPc and ZnPc∙∙∙H2O, both in the gas phase and in the polar solvent, was analyzed. To quantify the aromaticity of the ZnPc and ZnPc∙∙∙H2O complexes, both the geometric and magnetic criteria, i.e., Harmonic Oscillator Model of Aromaticity (HOMA) index and the nucleus-independent chemical shift (NICS) values at the centers or 1 A above the centers of structural subunits, were calculated. The energ…

Metal complex-DNA binding: Insights from molecular dynamics and DFT/MM calculations.
2012
Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, followed by density functional theory/molecular mechanics (DFT/MM) calculations, provided a detailed structure of the binding site between the cationic metallointercalator (dipyrido [3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine)(glycinato)copper(II), [Cu(gly)(dppz)](+), and the two dodeca-deoxynucleotide duplexes [dodeca(dG-dC)]2 and [dodeca(dA-dT)]2. Three simultaneous DNA binding types were detected in the fully optimized DFT/MM structures: 1) metal coordination through exocyclic oxygen atoms of nitrogen bases; 2) intercalation of the dppz chromophore between stacked Watson-Crick AT-AT and GC-GC bases; and 3) hydrogen bonding between the glycinato ligand and amine groups o…
Structural and spectroscopic characterisation of 2-(2'-hydroxybenzoyl)pyrrole and its O-methyl derivative
2004
Abstract Density functional theory calculations on the tautomeric and conformational equilibria of 2-(2′-hydroxybenzoyl)pyrrole (HBP) and 2-(2′-methoxybenzoyl)pyrrole (MBP) were performed. Moreover, the experimental IR and UV spectra of the same compounds were recorded and compared with the theoretical data. The presence of an intramolecular hydrogen bond in HBP can be related to the biological activities of some of its derivatives.
Molecular and crystal structure of Ac-(Z)-ΔAbu-NMe2 and Ac-DL-Abu-NMe2 as compared to those of related molecules
2004
Abstract The molecular and crystal structures of two homologous amino acid derivatives: N-acetyl-α,β-dehydro-butyrine N´,N´-dimethylamide (1) and N-acetyl-DL-butyrine N´,N´-dimethylamide (2), have been determined by X-ray crystallography. Similar solid-state association of both compounds is observed; despite different molecular conformation, they form centrosymmetric dimers linked by the intermolecular N–H…O hydrogen bonds. The conformation of two crystallographically independent molecules of 1 [with torsion angles ϕ, ψ, χ 1 ≈ (–47°, 130°, 3°), respectively] is also characteristic of other related diamides – ΔAla, ΔPhe and ΔLeu – previously studied in the solid state. To analyse whether thi…
Structure and vibrational features of the protic ionic liquid 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]-undec-7-ene-8-ium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide, [DBUH][TF…
2022
Abstract The Protic Ionic Liquid (PIL) formed by neutralization of the super-strong base 1,7-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) with the super-strong acid bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)-imide (TFSI), indicated as [DBUH][TFSI], has been investigated. Its chemical physical properties and structural features have been explored using a synergy of experimental and computational tools. Molecular Dynamics-rationalised X-ray diffraction patterns highlight the major role played by hydrogen bonding (HB) in affecting morphology in this PIL. A comparison between HB features in this and in related PILs has been presented, on the base of far-IR experiments and DFT analysis. Indications of a weaker HB in…
