Reduction of beauvericin and enniatins bioaccessibility by prebiotic compounds, evaluated in static and dynamic simulated gastrointestinal digestion

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the bioaccessibility of beauvericin (BEA) and enniatins (ENs) present in wheat crispy breads. A microbial fermentation was performed by a BEA- and ENs-producer Fusarium strain, adding inulin and fructooligosaccharides (FOS) at two concentrations (1% and 5%). The bioaccessibility of mycotoxins was determined by static and dynamic simulated gastrointestinal digestion systems, imitating the digestive physiological conditions until the colonic compartment. Histone variants from pea (Pisum sativum): Their differential presence in fractions obtained by DNase I digestion of nuclei

The variants of the core histones of Pisum sativum L. cv. Lincoln have been resolved by two dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Acetic acid, 8 M urea, 7.2 mM Triton X-100 was used in the first dimension. The second dimension was run in the presence of either anionic (sodium dodecylsulphate) or cationic (cetyltrimethyl-aminonium bromide) detergents. Four putative variants were found for the H2B histone class, 4 for H3 and 3 for H2A. Bioaccessibility of glucoraphanin from broccoli using anin vitrogastrointestinal digestion model

This study investigated the effect of cooking methods on the degradation of glucoraphanin (GR) in broccoli and the bioaccessibility of this compound through simulated gastrointestinal digestion. Broccoli was cooked using three different techniques: boiling, steaming and microwave cooking. Then, GR was extracted and quantified by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). In addition, the cooked samples were added to a system that simulates the digestion characteristics of the mouth, stomach and duodenum. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of several operational variables on both biological and separation process performance in a submerged anaerobic membrane bioreactor pilot plant that treats urban wastewater. The pilot plant is equipped with two industrial hollow-fibre ultrafiltration membrane modules (PURON¿ Koch Membrane Systems, 30m 2 of filtration surface each). It was operated under mesophilic conditions (at 33°C), 70days of SRT, and variable HRT ranging from 20 to 6h. Improvement of the thermophilic anaerobic digestion and hygienisation of waste activated sludge by synergistic pretreatment

Hybrid disintegration of waste activated sludge (WAS) before the thermophilic anaerobic stabilization of WAS contributes to the intensification of organic compounds decomposition and increases the effectiveness of the anaerobic stabilization process compared to the fermentation of raw WAS. This article investigates the influence of a chemical-thermal pretreatment procedure with the use of NaOH and freezing by the dry ice on WAS. Effect of cooking and legume species upon calcium, iron and zinc uptake by Caco-2 cells

Abstract An in vitro system, consisting of simulated gastrointestinal digestion and Caco-2 cell culture, was used to estimate the uptake of calcium, iron and zinc from white beans, chickpeas and lentils, and the effect of cooking upon uptake, with the ultimate aim of evaluating legumes as a dietary source of the aforementioned minerals. In raw products, differences were observed in the uptake percentages by Caco-2 cells of a same mineral from different legumes, although these were not related to the total mineral content.
