Los estudiantes tienen dificultades para asociar el enunciado de un problema multiplicativo con la operación que permite resolverlo; esta investigación identifica los tipos de problemas multiplicativos que los estudiantes reconocen como de división de fracciones. Mediante el análisis histórico-epistemológico de textos de enseñanza sobre tres épocas históricas y ocho períodos diferentes, se obtiene un listado de variables de enseñanza (algoritmos, sentidos de uso de fracción y de división de fracciones, representaciones, problemas), así como los valores de dichas variables. Monte Carlo simulations of the solid-liquid transition in hard spheres and colloid-polymer mixtures

Monte Carlo simulations at constant pressure are performed to study coexistence and interfacial properties of the liquid-solid transition in hard spheres and in colloid-polymer mixtures. The latter system is described as a one-component Asakura-Oosawa (AO) model where the polymer's degrees of freedom are incorporated via an attractive part in the effective potential for the colloid-colloid interactions. For the considered AO model, the polymer reservoir packing fraction is eta_p^r=0.1 and the colloid-polymer size ratio is q=sigma_p/\sigma=0.15 (with sigma_p and sigma the diameter of polymers and colloids, respectively). A Kurzweil-Henstock type integral on a zero-dimensional abelian group is used to recover by generalized Fourier formulas the coefficients of the series with respect to the characters of such groups, in the compact case, and to obtain an inversion formula for multiplicative integral transforms, in the locally compact case.
Abelian integrals and limit cycles

Abstract The paper deals with generic perturbations from a Hamiltonian planar vector field and more precisely with the number and bifurcation pattern of the limit cycles. In this paper we show that near a 2-saddle cycle, the number of limit cycles produced in unfoldings with one unbroken connection, can exceed the number of zeros of the related Abelian integral, even if the latter represents a stable elementary catastrophe. We however also show that in general, finite codimension of the Abelian integral leads to a finite upper bound on the local cyclicity. In the treatment, we introduce the notion of simple asymptotic scale deformation.

During industrial forging of big hot metallic shells, it is necessary to regularly measure the dimensions of the parts, especially the inner and outer diameters and the thickness of the walls, in order to decide when to stop the forging process. The inner and outer diameters of the shells range from 4 to 6 meters and to measure them a large ruler is placed horizontally at the end of the shell. Two blacksmiths standing on each side of the ruler at about ten meters from it visually reads the graduations on the ruler in order to determine the inner and outer diameters from which the thickness of the wall is determined. In this case report the diagnosis of a uterine lipoleiomyoma is depicted by means of a three-dimensional radiance mode. The advent of radiance or silhouette mode as a new tool in ultrasound diagnosis is intended to assist by generating additional realistic image visualization and a better distinction among different tissues.
