Musical Feedback: a new strategy in gait training for Parkinson’s Disease Patients

2016

Rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS) for gait training in Parkinson’s disease has been applied successfully over the last three decades. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of an extended concept of RAS, which is not limited to musical stimulation, but also includes musical feedback. In our study the comparison between RAS, musical feedback (MF), and no musical stimulation (NM) is conducted on a sample of 20 idiopathic Parkinsonian patients in a randomized cross-over design. Each patient has the task to walk for six minutes for each condition, focusing on stride length. The patient is instructed to make long steps and is connected with a software that is able to rec…

Simulated Game-Based Ice Hockey Match Design (Scrimmage) Elicits Greater Intensity in External Load Parameters Compared With Official Matches.

2022

ObjectiveA limited number of studies have explored the external load experienced in indoor sports such as ice hockey, and few the link between training and match performance. As a paucity exists within this topic, this study explored whether a simulated match design (i.e., scrimmage) could be representative of official match demands and elicit similar external loads as in official matches in a group of elite youth male ice hockey players.MethodsA total of 26 players were monitored during eight official and four simulation matches using a Local Positioning System. Total distance, max velocity, slow (0–10.9 km/h), moderate (11–16.9 km/h), high (17.0–23.9 km/h), and sprint (>24 km/h) sp…

Modulation of attention by socio-emotional scenes in children with autism spectrum disorder

2017

Background: Abnormal attentional processes to socially relevant information may underlie social impairment in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). To examine how these processes are modulated by the emotional salience of the stimuli, we studied the attentional biases to social scenes (happy, sad, and threatening) in ASD children. Method: An emotional dot-probe task was applied to children (from 6 to 12 years old) with Autism Spectrum Disorder without additional language and/or intellectual impairments (ASD; n=25) and age/sex-matched controls (n=25). Results: ASD children showed an attentional bias toward threatening scenes while typically developing children tended to direct their attention towa…

Oxygen parameters of blood: Definitions and symbols

1990

Definitions and symbols for relevant parameters of the oxygen status of arterial blood are recommended. The recommendations are as simple as possible, easy to understand, and devoid of misinterpretations and double meanings. The authors propose no new definitions for limited new methods, no combination of symbols and methods, and no association between definition, symbol and commercial name.
