Anton Čechov, Il giardino dei ciliegi
2023
Anton Chekhov wrote his last play, Višnëvyj sad (The Cherry Orchard), at the dawn of the twentieth century. From Yalta on 22 April 1901 he sent a letter to the Moscow Art Theater’s actress Olga Knipper, whom he would marry within a year, telling her that he was tempted to write a four acts vaudeville or a comedy, and would have been able to send it to the Art Theatre «not before the end of 1903». So it was. And so it takes shape for the scene The Cherry Orchard; Chekhov managed to create «a spider's web» with which he captured the attention and the mind of the spectators of the first opening of the play in 1904, as well as of every subsequent re-run on all the stages of the world. The Cherr…
Psychological intimate partner violence: the major predictor of posttraumatic stress disorder in abused women.
2004
Intimate partner violence (IPV) significantly impacts women mental and physical wellbeing and therefore represents a worldwide public health problem. A clear association between IPV and increased risk to develop posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been documented. However, few studies examined how different features of IPV (physical, psychological, sexual) interact with other traumatic stress experiences (physical, psychological and sexual childhood abuse and adulthood victimization by other/s than the partner) in determining PTSD. Women abused by the partner (n=75) were compared with non-abused control women (n=52). Information about sociodemographic profile and relevant personal char…
Does Childhood Psychological Abuse Contribute to Intimate Partner Violence Victimization? An Investigation Using the Childhood Experience of Care and…
2018
International audience; Although psychological abuse is recognized as a particularly insidious form of child abuse, research on the impact of this type of abuse related to intimate partner violence (IPV) is scant. This study examined the contribution of childhood psychological abuse to IPV in female victims and non-victims. Furthermore, it investigated the role of cumulative abuse in predicting IPV. The study included 38 women victims of IPV and 40 non-IPV women. All participants were investigated using the Childhood Experience of Care and Abuse Interview (CECA); the Revised Conflict Tactics Scale (CTS2) and the IPV History Interview were used to assess IPV in the last year and lifetime, re…
When Violence Can Appear With Different Male Partners: Identification of Resilient and Non-resilient Women in the European Union
2018
Introduction: Little scholarly attention has been paid to the analysis of the history of intimate partner violence (IPV) against women with different male partners and how it could be related to levels of IPV with the current male partner. From this point of view, been a victim of IPV could increase the vulnerability of women and, therefore, exert a negative influence on the selection of partners over time, thus increasing the odds of potentially mating with abusive male partners. Alternatively, for some women victims of IPV in previous relationships, there may be additional resources that reduce their vulnerability to victimization by new partners. Methodology: The present study analyzes l…

Wagner S, Baskaya O, Anicker NJ, Dahmen N, Lieb K, Tadic A. The catechol o‐methyltransferase (COMT) val158met polymorphism modulates the association of serious life events (SLE) and impulsive aggression in female patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Objective: We analyzed i) the effects of serious life events (SLE) on impulsive aggression, and ii) modulating effects of the COMT Val158Met polymorphism on the association between SLEs and impulsive aggression in borderline personality disorder (BPD). Method: One hundred and twelve female BPD patients from Germany were included in this study. Impulsive aggression was assessed by the Buss‐Durkee‐Hostility Inventory (BDHI). Result…
Cross-lagged relations between task motivation and performance in arithmetic and literacy in kindergarten
2009
Abstract To examine the cross-lagged relationships between children's task motivation in mathematics and literacy, and their related performance, 139 children aged 5–6 years were examined twice during their kindergarten year. The results showed that only math-related task motivation and arithmetic performance showed cross-lagged relationship: the higher the math-related task motivation children reported in the beginning of the kindergarten year the higher the level of their arithmetic performance at the end of the kindergarten year. Moreover, the higher the level of children's arithmetic performance the more the interest in mathematics children reported later on. Literacy-related task motiv…
Indagine antropo-educativa dei bisogni dei minori “fuori” famiglia e dei care leavers
2021
This chapter offers an anthropoloigcal and pedagogical perspective from the results obtained within the European project “Children for children wellbeing: strengthening national child care system to guarantee equal rights for all children ", of which the University of Palermo was a partner, aimed at children in care and care leavers.
Modified LEAD System distractor to prevent tilting during alveolar distraction in the mandibular symphyseal region
2006
This report describes a simple modification of the LEAD System distractor that prevents tilting of the distractor rod, and consequent deviation of distraction direction, during alveolar distraction in the mandibular symphysis region.
Establishing Laboratory Cultures and Performing Ecological and Evolutionary Experiments with the Emerging Model Species <em>Chironomus Riparius…
2018
Chironomus riparius is a well-established model organism in various fields such as ecotoxicology and ecology, and therefore environmental preferences, ecological interactions and metabolic traits are well-studied. With the recent publication of a high-quality draft genome, as well as different population genetic parameters such as mutation and recombination rate, the species can be used as an alternative to the Drosophila models in experimental population genomics or molecular ecology. To facilitate access to this promising experimental model species for a wider range of researchers, we describe experimental methods to first create and sustain long term cultures of C. riparius and then use …
Plasma non-cholesterol sterols: a useful diagnostic tool in pediatric hypercholesterolemia.
2010
Current guidelines strongly recommend the identification of genetic forms of hypercholesterolemia (HC) during childhood. The usefulness of non–cholesterol sterols (NCS) in the diagnosis of genetic HC has not been fully explored. Plasma NCS were measured by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) in 113 children with hypercholesterolemia affected by: autosomal dominant hypercholesterolemia (ADH), familial combined hyperlipidemia (FCHL), polygenic hypercholesterolemia (PHC), and in 79 controls to evaluate: i) plasma NCS profile in different genetic HC and ii) the usefulness of NCS for the diagnosis of HC beyond current clinical criteria. ADH was characterized by raised lathosterol/total …
