Establishing Usability for Interactive Music Applications that Use Embodied Mediation Technology
2009
This paper proposes a research method to address usability issues in the early stage of development of interactive or collaborative embodied music applications. The central topic is how concepts of usability testing, goal composition, game enjoyment and technology assessment can be actively incorporated in the development and improvement of music applications that use embodied mediation technology. The method presented involves discourse analysis of interviews to develop an approach to constructively use the feedback of test persons to enhance interactive music applications. This analysis is used to determine whether users can properly interact with the system, whether they understand it an…
What can discourse psychology say about teachers' music talk and their teaching strategies?
2009
The teaching in music and culture schools is an activity that involves approximately one third of the children in Sweden, but there are only a few scientific studies conducted on the subject. The most of its participants will have music as a hobby in their future lives, but the vast majority of the students in higher music education once started their carriers in those schools. In this way music and culture schools can be seen as having a great impact on both cultural and musical activities in Sweden. This also points at the importance of knowledge concerning this institution, which this paper hopefully supplies for. The study has a social constructionist and post-structuralistic approach w…
Kaiken keskellä : keskijohto strategisen muutoksen tekijänä ja kokijana
2018
This research focuses on the actions and perceptions of the middle managers during a strategic change. Over the years, strategic change and middle managers have been studied from various points of view. The importance of middle managers and their roles and actions have been argued both for and against. Most of the recent research emphasises the middle managers’ importance in strategic organizational change as mediators between the change initiators and the change recipients. However, there is less research on middle managers’ and subordinates’ sensemaking processes during a strategic organizational change, especially when identity, culture, artefacts, emotions and change resistance are cons…
The professional agency of teacher educators amid academic discourses
2012
Agency has been seen as fundamental in the renegotiation of professional identities. However, it is unclear how teacher educators exercise their professional agency in their work, and how multiple discourses frame and restrict the practice of their professional agency. This study examines how teacher educators practise agency in negotiating their professional identities amid the multiple discourses emerging from the academic context of their work. The aim was to investigate educators’ locally expressed professional agency in the context of the more global discourses that may construct teacher educator identities. The analysis made use of applied thematic discursive analysis to address patte…
Teaching medical students online consultation: reframing the doctor-patient exchange
2017
After qualifying, doctors are expected to refine and develop professional knowledge and competences with a greater emphasis on the communication and consultation skills needed to create and maintain a good doctor-patient relationship. The ‘doctorability’, which is the act of legitimating the patient’s decision to seek medical care during the doctor-patient exchange, has been first studied by Heritage and Maynard (2006). However, the concept has been adapted to the new frames offered by the digital context and, as such, Stommel (2010) talks about the ‘forumability’, which refers to the users’ negotiations and legitimization within the group contributing to health fora. Using Digital Discours…
