A clinical staging model for bipolar disorder: longitudinal approach

AbstractBipolar disorder (BD) has been identified as a life-course illness with different clinical manifestations from an at-risk to a late stage, supporting the assumption that it would benefit from a staging model. In a previous study, we used a clustering approach to stratify 224 patients with a diagnosis of BD into five clusters based on clinical characteristics, functioning, cognition, general health, and health-related quality of life. A consistent finding of many studies describing the spectrum of mutant phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) alleles underlying hyperphenylalaninemia is the impossibility of achieving a 100% mutation ascertainment rate using conventional gene-scanning methods. These methods include denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE), denaturing high performance liquid chromatography (DHPLC), and direct sequencing. Spanish Menopause Society position statement: Use of denosumab in postmenopausal women

Denosumab is a new drug developed for the treatment of osteoporosis. Moreover, increasing evidences link denosumab with benefits in cancer, an area of interest for those in charge of the postmenopausal health. Denosumab has shown efficacy in the control of bone loss associated with hypogonadic states created by chemotherapy in breast and other cancers. Moreover, some studies reveal efficacy in reducing the progression of metastases. A panel of experts from the Spanish Menopause Society has met to develop usage recommendations based on the best available evidence.

METHODS: In data obtained from trials and cohorts, X-rays were graded using Kellgren and Lawrence (KL), the OA Research Society International (OARSI) joint space narrowing score, and measurement of joint space width (JSW). Exosomes are nanometer-sized vesicles (40-100 nm diameter) of endocytic origin released from different cell types under both normal and pathological conditions. They function as cell free messengers, playing a relevant role in the cell-cell communication that is strongly related to the nature of the molecules (proteins, mRNAs, miRNAs, and lipids) that they transport. Glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, is often not diagnosed until many years after disease onset. Early and objective diagnostic measures are yet missing. Comparative Proteome Profiling and Functional Analysis of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia Cell Lines

The aim of the present study was the molecular profiling of different Ph+ chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) cell lines (LAMA84, K562, and KCL22) by a proteomic approach. By employing two-dimensional gel electrophoresis combined with mass spectrometry analysis, we have identified 191 protein spots corresponding to 142 different proteins. Among these, 63% were cancer-related proteins and 74% were described for the first time in leukemia cells. Multivariate analysis highlighted significant differences in the global proteomic profile of the three CML cell lines.
