Enzimas salivales y enfermedad periodontal

2006

Tryptophan Metabolic Pathways and Brain Serotonergic Activity: A Comparative Review

2019

The essential amino acid L-tryptophan (Trp) is the precursor of the monoaminergic neurotransmitter serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT). Numerous studies have shown that elevated dietary Trp has a suppressive effect on aggressive behavior and post-stress plasma cortisol concentrations in vertebrates, including teleosts. These effects are believed to be mediated by the brain serotonergic system, even though all mechanisms involved are not well understood. The rate of 5-HT biosynthesis is limited by Trp availability, but only in neurons of the hindbrain raphe area predominantly expressing the isoform TPH2 of the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH). In the periphery as well as in brain areas …

Association between oral HSV-1 and survival in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplanted patients

2009

Introduction: This study was designed to investigate the effect of oral HSV-1 shedding on the survival of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplanted (allo-HSCT) patients. Methods: One hundred nineteen allo-HSCT patients were included in the study and divided in three groups: before transplant, 100 days after transplant and 1 year of allo-HSCT. Healthy volunteers matched by age and gender were also selected. Oral swabs were performed and the nested PCR was used to detect HSV-1 presence in the oral mucosa. In statistical analysis, chi-square test was used to test the distribution of HSV1 shedding among the three groups. Time to death after allo-HSCT was displayed by means of the Kaplan-M…

Data from: New insights on water buffalo genomic diversity and post-domestication migration routes from medium density SNP chip data

2019

The domestic water buffalo is native to the Asian continent but through historical migrations and recent importations, nowadays has a worldwide distribution. The two types of water buffalo, i.e., river and swamp, display distinct morphological and behavioral traits, different karyotypes and also have different purposes and geographical distributions. River buffaloes from Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy, Mozambique, Brazil and Colombia, and swamp buffaloes from China, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and Brazil were genotyped with a species-specific medium-density 90K SNP panel. We estimated the levels of molecular diversity and described population structure, which r…

Association between resting blood pressure and maximal blood pressure response to exercise and arterial health

2022

We investigated the longitudinal associations of blood pressure, cardiorespiratory fitness, and arterial stiffness among children. Arterial stiffening has been repeatedly shown to be a cardiovascular mortality predictor and can be observed early in childhood. As such, it is crucial to understand whether a child’s blood pressure, fitness level, and body composition can predict early signs of atherosclerosis and arterial stiffening. The current study examined the relationship between blood pressure, cardiorespiratory fitness, and arterial stiffness over time in children, using data from the Physical and Nutrition in Children (PANIC) Study. It is a physical and dietary intervention study condu…
