Structure and determinants of production in Textile-Clothing-Leather-Skins (TCLS) craft industry in Benin: a study based on investigations of the val…

2014

Lieu et date de la conférence modifiées. Prétoria 31Juillet au 2 Août 2014 (Au lieu de Kigali -Rwanda); International audience; Sustainable economic growth in Benin requires a better understand of the informalsector, which contributes to two-thirds of GDP. Particularly, craft industry and TCLSsubsector is one of informal activity sector to be handled. The objectives of this work wereto identify the structure and factors that determine the production in TCLS craft industry. This study was based on a survey carried out in February 2011 on value creationdata in craft industry of TCLS in Benin. Lack of data induced by informal activities wascircumvented using an imputation method. A Multiple Cor…

Self-similar focusing with generalized devil's lenses

2011

[EN] We introduce the generalized devil's lenses (GDLs) as a new family of diffractive kinoform lenses whose structure is based on the generalized Cantor set. The focusing properties of different members of this family are analyzed. It is shown that under plane wave illumination the GDLs give a single main focus surrounded by many subsidiary foci. It is shown that the total number of subsidiary foci is higher than the number of foci corresponding to conventional devil's lenses; however, the self-similar behavior of the axial irradiance is preserved to some extent. A Comparison between Heuristic, Statistical and Data-driven Methods in Landslide Susceptibility Assessment: an Application to the Briga and Giampilie…

2014

Susceptibility assessment concerning the estimation of areas prone to landslide is one of the most useful approach in the analysis of landslide hazard. Over the last years, in an attempt to find the best approach to evaluate landslide susceptibility, many methods have been developed. Among these, the heuristic, the statistical, and the data-driven approaches are very widespread, and they all are based on the concept that the conditions which led to landslide movements in the past will control the probability of movement occurrence in the future. This study presents an assessment of landslide susceptibility in which models of the three different methodologies, such as the heuristic approach,…

Heat Capacity of Transfer of (Ethylene oxide)13-(propylene oxide)30-(ethylene oxide)13 from Water to the Aqueous Anionic Surfactant Solutions at 298 …

2004

Heat capacities of transfer (ACpt) of unimeric (ethylene oxide)(13)-(propylene oxide)(30)-(ethylene oxide)(13) from water to the aqueous surfactant solutions as functions of the surfactant concentrations (m(S)) were determined at 298 K. The surfactants investigated are sodium hexanoate, sodium heptanoate, sodium octanoate, sodium undecanoate, and sodium dodecanoate. For short alkyl chain surfactants, the profiles of the DeltaCp(t) versus ms curves show maxima and minima; for long alkyl chain surfactants, the maximum becomes sharper and moved to lower ms values whereas the minimum tends to disappear. These experimental trends are different from those of the enthalpy in agreement with the fac…

Thermodynamics of Aqueous Poly(ethylene oxide)−Poly(propylene oxide)−Poly(ethylene oxide)/Surfactant Mixtures. Effect of the Copolymer Molecular Weig…

2004

A calorimetric study was performed to focus attention on the interactions between copolymers and anionic surfactants in aqueous solutions. Three aspects were analyzed: (1) the hydrophobicity of the surfactant, (2) the change of the copolymer molecular weight, and (3) the nature of the hydrophilicity of the copolymer. To this purpose, the family of sodium alkanoates (sodium octanoate through sodium dodecanoate) and the triblock copolymers EO76PO 29EO76 (F68), EO103PO39EO 103 and EO132PO50EO132 were investigated. Comparing F68 and EO13PO30EO13 (L64), previously studied by us, provided information on the effect of the copolymer hydrophilicity. The experimental data were analyzed by means of a …

Contribution of Molecular Structure to Self-Assembling and Biological Properties of Bifunctional Lipid-Like 4-(N-Alkylpyridinium)-1,4-Dihydropyridines

2019

The design of nanoparticle delivery materials possessing biological activities is an attractive strategy for the development of various therapies. In this study, 11 cationic amphiphilic 4-(N-alkylpyridinium)-1,4-dihydropyridine (1,4-DHP) derivatives differing in alkyl chain length and propargyl moiety/ties number and position were selected for the study of their self-assembling properties, evaluation of their cytotoxicity in vitro and toxicity on microorganisms, and the characterisation of their interaction with phospholipids. These lipid-like 1,4-DHPs have been earlier proposed as promising nanocarriers for DNA delivery. We have revealed that the mean diameter of freshly prepared nanoparti…

Polymer-metal plasmonic waveguide : passive and active components for integrated photonics

2009

Dielectric loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguides (DLSPPWs) enable transmission at a sub-wavelength scale of both electrical and plasmonic (optical waves at the interface between a metal and a dielectric) signals in the same circuitry. Moreover, the use of a polymer as the dielectric load enables the functionalization of DLSPPWs. Therefore, this configuration is of great interest for integrated photonic applications. However, DLSPPWs suffer strong losses due to dissipation into the metal film. We address here the possibility of compensating the losses using a configuration analogous to an optical amplifier. We first set theoretical (effective index model), numerical (differential metho…

Defining the course of tumefactive multiple sclerosis: A large retrospective multicentre study

2021

Background and purpose: Tumefactive multiple sclerosis (TuMS) (i.e., MS onset presenting with tumefactive demyelinating lesions [TDLs]) is a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. We performed a multicentre retrospective study to describe the clinical characteristics and the prognostic factors of TuMS. Methods: One hundred two TuMS patients were included in this retrospective study. Demographic, clinical, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), laboratory data and treatment choices were collected. Results: TuMS was found to affect women more than men (female:male: 2.4), with a young adulthood onset (median age: 29.5 years, range: 11–68 years, interquartile range [IQR]: 38 years). At onset, 52% of …
