Hospital Admissions for Acute Myocardial Infarction Before and After Lockdown According to Regional Prevalence of COVID-19 and Patient Profile

2020

Aim: to evaluate the impact of a nationwide lockdown in France on acute myocardial infarction (AMI) admissions, by patient characteristics and regional prevalence of the pandemic. Methods and Results: We collected data from 21 centres participating in the on-going FRENCHIE registry (NCT04050956), which collects data from all patients admitted for STEMI or NSTEMI within 48 hours of symptom onset. We compared weekly admissions in the 4 weeks preceding and the 4 weeks following institution of the lockdown. We observed a brutal 30% decrease in AMI admissions (24% for STEMI and 36% for NSTEMI, P=0.14) following institution of the lockdown, with similar trends according to gender (30% decrease in…

Right heart dysfunction and readmission risk across left ventricular ejection fraction status in patients with acute heart failure

2021

Abstract Background Right heart dysfunction (RHD) parameters, such as right ventricular to pulmonary artery uncoupling or significant tricuspid regurgitation (TR) are increasingly important in heart failure (HF), especially in patients with preserved ejection fraction. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the association of advanced RHD with the risk of recurrent admissions across the spectrum of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). Methods We included 3,383 consecutive patients discharged for acute HF (AHF). Of them, in 1,435 (42.4%) pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) could not be accurately measured, leaving a final sample size of 1,948 patients. Advanced RHD was defined as th…

Implementation of Sample Pooling Procedure Using a Rapid SARS-CoV-2 Diagnostic Real-Time PCR Test Performed Prior to Hospital Admission of People wit…

2021

Reliability, accuracy, and timeliness of diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2 infection have allowed adequate public health management of the disease, thus notably helping the timely mapping of viral spread within the community. Furthermore, the most vulnerable populations, such as people with intellectual disability and dementia, represent a high-risk group across multiple dimensions, including a higher prevalence of pre-existing conditions, lower health maintenance, and a propensity for rapid community spread. This led to an urgent need for reliable in-house rapid testing to be performed prior to hospital admission. In the present study, we describe a pooling procedure in which oropharyngeal…

Link between cardiovascular disease and the risk of falling: a comprehensive review of the evidence.

2021

Falls are associated with increased morbidity and mortality, rising hospital readmission rates, decreased patient independence, and strained healthcare resources. In aged populations and individuals with multimorbidity, cardiovascular conditions may contribute towards an increased propensity to fall. The prevalence of cardiovascular conditions generally increases with age, and understanding potential fall risk factors may help to minimize the risk of falls and develop preventive interventions. Acting on even one such risk factor or introducing an appropriate intervention may reduce the overall propensity for a patient to fall. Further prevention strategies primed towards cardiovascular ailm…

Contrasting patterns of temperature related mortality and hospitalization by cardiovascular and respiratory diseases in 52 Spanish cities.

2020

Climate change is a severe public health challenge. Understanding to what extent fatal and non-fatal consequences of specific diseases are associated with temperature may help to improve the effectiveness of preventive public health efforts. This study examines the effects of temperature on deaths and hospital admissions by cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, empathizing the difference between mortality and morbidity.

Adherence to medical follow‐up recommendations reduces hospital admissions: Evidence from diabetic patients in France

2020

International audience; The aim of this study was to document the extent to which diabetic patients who adhered to required medical follow‐ups in France experienced reduced hospital admissions over time. The main assumption was that enhanced monitoring and follow‐up of diabetic patients in the primary care setting could be a substitute for hospital use. Using longitudinal claim data of diabetic patients between 2010 and 2015 from MGEN, a leading mutuelle insurance company in France, we estimated a dynamic logit model with lagged measures of the quality of adherence to eight medical follow‐up recommendations. This model allowed us to disentangle follow‐up care in hospitals from other forms o…

Aplicación de The Community Assessment Risk Screen en centros de atención primaria del Sistema Sanitario Valenciano

2014
