Filipin labelling and intramembrane particles on the membranes of early and later autophagic vacuoles in Ehrlich ascites cells
1987
Cholesterol and intramembrane particle distribution on autophagic vacuole membranes was studied in Ehrlich ascites cells using filipin labelling and freeze-fracture electron microscopy. Unsaturated fatty acids were stained using imidazole-buffered osmium tetroxide. Autophagocytosis was induced with vinblastine, and early autophagic vacuoles were accumulated by lowering the ATP level in the cells with iodoacetate. Filipin labelling was observed in the limiting membranes of later, apparently hydrolase-containing autophagic vacuoles, whereas the most newly-formed, doublemembrane limited vacuoles were not labelled. The limiting membranes of late, residual body-type vacuoles either showed patchy…
Metabolic aspects of the rhythmogenesis inAplysia pacemaker neurons
1973
Completely isolatedAplysia pacemaker neurons were used to investigate mechanisms of endogenous electrical rhythmicity. This preparation allows the study of pure pacemaker activity free from synaptic, ephaptic and/or humoral influences from the surrounding cells. The effect of some substances quite different in their mode of biochemical action were tested: sodium iodoacetate, phloridzin, dinitrophenol, heavy water, and ouabain. Each of these substances suppressed the spontaneous spike activity without any marked depolarizing or hyperpolarizing effect. Spontaneous spike activity of the neurons silenced after addition of one of these substances reappeared after addition of glucose. The restori…
Der Einflu von Monojodessigsure auf das Aktionspotential des Rattenzwerchfells
1959
1. The action of iodoacetic acid (IA) was studied on the isolated rat diaphragm at 20–22° C. Membrane and action potentials were led off with intracellular microelectrodes. 2. IA causes a contracture which is complete in 4 hours. As long as t he contracture develops, the membrane potential remains constant. A contracture identical with that seen in a normal preparation can be produced by IA in the presence of isotonic K2SO4. 3. The amplitude of the action potential is only slightly reduced during the first two hours after addition of IA. The duration of the action potential is significantly increased. Finally, action potentials with a plateau are obtained which resemble those of normal vent…
L -lysine and EDTA polymer mimics as resins for the quantitative and reversible removal of heavy metal ion water pollutants
2012
Traditional precipitation methods for inorganic micropollutant removal from waters are increasingly being replaced by sorption methods based on both natural and synthetic materials. In this context, two novel effective heavy metal ions absorbers are presented. These resins, LYMA and LMT85, were crosslinked poly(amidoamine)s carrying amine and carboxyl groups in their repeating units. In particular, the LYMA-repeating unit contains one carboxyl and two amine groups and is a mimic of L-lysine, whereas LMT85 contains two amine and five carboxyl groups and is a mimic of EDTA. Both resins were prepared at moderate cost by simple eco-friendly procedures. The heavy metal ion set adopted as benchma…

GH successful treatment in a female with a de novo 46,XX,add(X)(p36),t(X;Y)(p36.3;p11.2), growth impairment and SHOX-haploinsufficiency
2019
Abstract Children with chromosome translocations, concerning X chromosome, have a genetic pattern different from Turner syndrome; however, when a translocation involves the of part of X chromosome including short stature homeobox-containing Sex-determining Region Y gene, growth may be severely compromised. We describe the clinical case of a 2.2-year-old-female, arrived at our paediatric unit for a decrease of height velocity. The karyotype was 46,XX,add(X)(p36.3). Array comparative genomic hybridization showed a fragment of Y chromosome, extended from 8.803.981 (Yp11.2) to 28.767.604 (Yq11.23). The final karyotype was 46,XX,add(X)(p36),t(X;Y)(p36.3;p11.2). Fluorescence in situ Hybridization…
External iliac artery pseudoaneurysm complicating renal transplantation
2009
Objective: To assess the etiology, management and outcome of iliac pseudoaneurysms following renal transplantation. Methods: Eleven patients who underwent repair between 1982 and 2007 were identified. Five (Group 1) presented pseudoaneurysm at the anastomosis of the donor renal and native iliac arteries, and six (Group 2) presented iliac pseudoaneurysm following transplant nephrectomy. Intraoperative cultures and immunohistochemical examinations were obtained from all surgical cases to determine the existence of a relationship between infection or transplant rejection and pseudoaneurysm formation. Results: Endovascular repair (EVR) was used to treat three patients, while eight patients unde…
Branch ligatures and blood aspiration for post-traumatic superficial temporal artery pseudoaneurysm: surgical technique
2014
The aim of this study is to report a new minimally invasive technique of superficial temporal artery (STA) pseudoaneurysm treatment. Several surgical options have been employed to treat STA pseudoaneurysms. To address this rare condition, the employed techniques are ligation and excision of the aneurysm, endovascular coil embolization or percutaneous ultrasound-guided thrombin injection. Between techniques no significant differences are reported in terms of outcomes. The decision to adopt a technique depends on STA pseudoaneurysm morphology and surgeon preference. In the present report, STA pseudoaneurysm afferent and efferent branches were identified by ultrasound in a 92-year-old female. …
