A Letter That Was Lost Summary The paper presents the history of a letter by Tadeusz Kantor of 1981 that was long lost. Kantor responds in it to a proposal from the Institute of Art History of the University of Poznań to have a series of lectures on the avant-garde. Writing that he had not time for it, he explains in some detail his detachment from the institutional study of the avant-garde at the university, stressing his involvement in the avant-garde activity through his art, in particular the Cricot theater. Kantor insists that the avant-garde does not belong to the public domain, but is a result of the artist’s private experience of anxiety and fear in confrontation with the audience a…

A Approach to Clinical Proteomics Data Quality Control and Import

2011

International audience; Biomedical domain and proteomics in particular are faced with an increasing volume of data. The heterogeneity of data sources implies heterogeneity in the representation and in the content of data. Data may also be incorrect, implicate errors and can compromise the analysis of experiments results. Our approach aims to ensure the initial quality of data during import into an information system dedicated to proteomics. It is based on the joint use of models, which represent the system sources, and ontologies, which are use as mediators between them. The controls, we propose, ensure the validity of values, semantics and data consistency during import process.

PEDAGOGICAL CONTENT KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT AND PRE-SERVICE PHYSICS TEACHER EDUCATION: A CASE STUDY

2005

Abstract. This paper addresses the question of how to develop prospective teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) in science teacher education. The main focus is on the knowledge transformation process and on the cognitive strategies used to shift prospective teachers’ explanations within the domain of modelling thermal physical phenomena. This study investigates the development of PCK within a group of 28 pre-service physics teachers during the first semester of their two-year post-graduate teacher education program. It focuses on the central issue of the relationships between observable phenomena, like macroscopic thermal properties of matter and their interpretation and /or explanat…

Developing a matrix framework for protein transition towards more sustainable diets

2021

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to propose a matrix framework to understand the interdependencies of domains and scales of protein transition towards diets based on plants and alternative sources of proteins.Design/methodology/approachThe abductive research approach is used in building the framework, and the proposed framework is illustrated using the regional food system in Central Finland as an example. Focus groups and interviews were used to collect qualitative data from 28 respondents.FindingsThis study provides a framework for protein transition, with five domains and five scale levels. Interactions between public and private governance activities at different scales, domains and …

Aims vs. technology: Pedagogical view to the use of educational applications in safety critical contexts

2011

Interactive technology for education has formed into a relatively independent domain of research and development. Interactive technology is often seen as a context independent tool. However, we argue that education in different contexts may have so different and incommensurable aims that no single technology can be announced as good or bad per se in terms of learning. The development of educational application should not be based on the technology to be applied, but by careful analysis of learning aims. When formulated in an appropriate way, learning aims work as a relevant basis in all stages of the design process of an educational application. The formulation of aims is therefore critical…

Joint Development of Novel Business Models

2006

Changing competitive environment forces companies to innovate and renew their business models towards a more value-adding and customer-centric direction. Often, a prerequisite for this is that the companies are willing to combine their capabilities by co-operating and creating long-term strategic networks with each other. The formation of networks is a cyclical learning process, along which the infrastructure and strategies emerge incrementally through mutual adjustment. We analyze such network formation process among three companies that are operating in separate but complementary industries. They are seeking to expand their service offering through the use of ICT. We reflect upon this dev…

A Comparative Analysis of Agile Maturity Models

2013

Agility has increased in popularity in software development. It is believed to reduce time to market, improve product quality, and increase customer value. After some years from adoption, organizations start questioning how they are doing in the application of agile values, principles, and practices. Have they really obtained the benefits the agile approach promises? How could they improve their agile processes? For these kinds of situations, several agile maturity models have been suggested. This chapter makes a comparative analysis of eight agile maturity models, based on criteria such as purpose, domain, conceptual and theoretical backgrounds, approach, structure, use, and validation. We…

Approach to Product Quality Requirements in the Context of Aeronautical Domain Process Modeling

2021

Structural components account for a significant proportion of the number of components in an aircraft. The manufacturing methods and techniques by which these products are made, are considered critically, due to the importance of components. The volume and complexity of the requirements of each product are quite high. The intend of this research is to address the interaction of the product requirements in the manufacturing phase, when the value of the product increases the most, reason why the interest is highest. The requirements regarding the realization of the manufacturing processes, specific to the aerospace field, aim at the technological process parameters and are requirements genera…

Business Process Models and Information System Usability

2015

Abstract The paper describes the use of business process models for effective managing of information system execution processes and transparent representation of execution statuses. Contrary to traditional approaches where business process models are used only in the initial stages of information system development, the proposed approach suggests direct utilization of business process models during the use of information systems. Information system usability can be improved by using new means of representation, and business process models can serve as an efficient way to visualize execution processes in information systems.

A Conceptual Model of Product Design

2013

The paper presents a conceptual model that pursues the understanding of the activities, the phases and the mechanisms of product design. The purpose of this model is to aid the product conception phase, as well as to develop software products that can furthermore aid design. The model takes into account the entire mental potential of the human being. The paper uses Jung's model in order to describe the various aspects of the human psyche. The paper presents a number of design models from the scientific literature. The proposed model defines domains of the needs imposed by stakeholders and specialists, functions domains and product domains. It explains the mechanism through which information…
