Classes of non-conventional tetraspanins defined by alternative splicing

AbstractTetraspanins emerge as a family of membrane proteins mediating an exceptional broad diversity of functions. The naming refers to their four transmembrane segments, which define the tetraspanins‘ typical membrane topology. In this study, we analyzed alternative splicing of tetraspanins. Besides isoforms with four transmembrane segments, most mRNA sequences are coding for isoforms with one, two or three transmembrane segments, representing structurally mono-, di- and trispanins. Certain proteins, including fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), have proved very effective in increasing the efficacy of mesoangioblast stem cell therapy in repairing damaged tissue. We provide the first evidence that mouse mesoangioblast stem cells release FGF-2 and MMP-9 in their active form through the production of membrane vesicles. These vesicles are produced and turned over continuously, but are stable for some time in the extracellular milieu. An efficient distributed approach for dynamic multicast trees

In this paper we present a distributed algorithm for constructing efficient multicast trees in large networks. The algorithm allows the set up of effective distribution trees using a coordination protocol among the network nodes. The algorithm has been implemented and extensively tested both in simulation, and on experimental networks. Performance evaluation indicates that our approach outperforms the state-of-the-art distributed algorithms for multicast tree setup, providing good levels of convergence time and communication complexity. Pressure-tuning of magnetism and linkage isomerism in iron(II) hexacyanochromate.

A pressure-induced linkage isomerization of the cyanide anion has been observed in single crystals of a chromium(III)-iron(II) Prussian blue analogue of formula K0.4Fe4[Cr(CN)6]2.8 square1.2.16H2O (1). Upon application of pressure in the 0-1200 MPa range, the cyanide ligand rotates and becomes C-bonded to the iron(II) cations, leading to a stabilization of their diamagnetic low-spin states. The result is a decrease of magnetization and magnetic ordering temperatures from TC = 19 K at ambient pressure to 13 K at 1200 MPa. Premorbid functioning and cognitive measures may reflect gradients of developmental impairment across diagnostic categories in psychosis. In this study, we sought to examine the associations of current cognition and premorbid adjustment with symptom dimensions in a large first episode psychosis (FEP) sample. We used data from the international EU-GEI study. Rho protein inactivation induced apoptosis of cultured human endothelial cells.

Small GTP-binding Rho GTPases regulate important signaling pathways in endothelial cells, but little is known about their role in endothelial cell apoptosis. Clostridial cytotoxins specifically inactivate GTPases by glucosylation [ Clostridium difficile toxin B-10463 (TcdB-10463), C. difficile toxin B-1470 (TcdB-1470)] or ADP ribosylation ( C. botulinum C3 toxin). The structure of the Banach space $\mathcal{D}[||\cdot||_\Omega]$ defined on the domain $\mathcal{D}$ of a q-closed sesquilinear form $\Omega$ is unique up to isomorphism, and the adjoint of a sesquilinear form has the same property of q-closure or of solvability. The operator associated to a solvable sesquilinear form is the greatest which represents the form and it is self-adjoint if, and only if, the form is symmetric. Existence and almost uniqueness for p -harmonic Green functions on bounded domains in metric spaces

We study ($p$-harmonic) singular functions, defined by means of upper gradients, in bounded domains in metric measure spaces. It is shown that singular functions exist if and only if the complement of the domain has positive capacity, and that they satisfy very precise capacitary identities for superlevel sets. Suitably normalized singular functions are called Green functions. Uniqueness of Green functions is largely an open problem beyond unweighted $\mathbf{R}^n$, but we show that all Green functions (in a given domain and with the same singularity) are comparable.
