Producing Routing Systems Flexibly Using a VRP Metamodel and a Software Product Line

2012

Routing problems occur in a wide variety of situations. Due to the heterogeneity of cases we do not yet know how to manage the complexity of addressing all the relevant aspects in logistic planning and solving the variety of different problem types in a cost-efficient way. In the last decade, we have witnessed an emergence of systematic approach into managing variation within a set of related software systems. This paper presents an application of these advances from software engineering into vehicle routing: we suggest the construction of a higher-level (meta-) model of routing problems and the application of a software product line approach. The proposed approach results in a flexible pro…

Some Generalizations of a Simion Schmidt Bijection

2007

In 1985, Simion and Schmidt gave a constructive bijection φ from the set of all length (n-1) binary strings having no two consecutive 1s to the set of all length n permutations avoiding all patterns in {123,132,213}. In this paper, we generalize φ to an injective function from {0,1}n-1 to the set Sn of all length n permutations and derive from it four bijections φ : P →Q where P⊆{0,1}n-1 and Q ⊂ Sn. The domains are sets of restricted binary strings and the codomains are sets of pattern-avoiding permutations. As a particular case we retrieve the original Simion–Schmidt bijection. We also show that the bijections obtained are actually combinatorial isomorphisms, i.e. closeness-preserving bije…

Finding Tours for a Set of Interests

2018

This paper addresses a novel tour discovery problem in the domain of travel search. We create a ranking of tours for a set of travel interests, where a tour is a group of city documents and a travel interest is a query. While generating and ranking tours, it is aimed that each interest (from the interest set) is satisfied by at least one city in a tour and the distance traveled to cover the tour is not too large. Firstly, we generate tours for the interest set, by utilizing the available ranking of cities for the individual interests and the distances between the cities. Then, in absence of existing methods directly related to our problem, we devise our novel techniques to calculate ranking…

A multiple layered functional data model to support multiple representations and interoperability of GIS

2001

This paper presents a multi-layered functional data model to support multiple representation and information sharing among distributed spatial information systems. The key idea is that a geographical space (foe example an urban space) can be viewed as a set of abstract spatial functionalities on which different application classes can be derived to manipulate objects of the same geographical space and share the same abstract generic functionalities. The object classes define multiple views or representations of a domain. For example in urban management, transportation systems, water supply and sewage systems applications can share generic network functionalities defined by graph treversal o…

Dorsal/Ventral asymmetric expression of nodal in the early sea urchin embryo relies on specific suppression in dorsal cells by the Hbox12 homeodomain…

2014

Dorsal/Ventral (DV) polarization of the sea urchin embryo is directed by a Nodal-expressing signaling centre located on the ventral side. The initial breaking of the symmetry and positioning of the organizer are unclear. We show that, in Paracentrotus lividus embryos, the Hbox12 homeodomaincontaining repressor is expressed on the opposite side and precedes the onset of nodal transcription. Hbox12 misexpression provokes DV abnormalities, attenuating nodal and nodal-dependent gene transcription. Reciprocally, clonal hbox12 loss-of-function imposed by blastomere transplantation or gene transfer assays disrupts DV polarization and allows ectopic expression of nodal. Remarkably, the localized kn…

Suppression of nodal expression in prospective dorsal cells of the early sea urchin embryo by the hbox12 homeodomain regulator

2014

Dorsal/Ventral (DV) axis formation in the sea urchin embryo depends upon the expression of nodal on the ventral side, which behaves as a DV organizing centre. However, only fuzzy clues are known as to the early symmetry-breaking steps that lead to the positioning of such an organizer. An extremely interesting candidate for this role is the hbox12 homeobox-containing gene. In Paracentrotus lividus, hbox12 expression is antecedent and complementary with respect to that of nodal, being confined in prospective dorsal cells. We show that ectopic expression of Hbox12 provokes DV abnormalities and attenuates nodal as well as nodal-dependent gene transcription. By blastomere transplantation, we als…

Structural and Dynamic Disturbances Revealed by Molecular Dynamics Simulations Predict the Impact on Function of CCT5 Chaperonin Mutations Associated…

2023

Mutations in genes encoding molecular chaperones, for instance the genes encoding the subunits of the chaperonin CCT (chaperonin containing TCP-1, also known as TRiC), are associated with rare neurodegenerative disorders. Using a classical molecular dynamics approach, we investigated the occurrence of conformational changes and differences in physicochemical properties of the CCT5 mutations His147Arg and Leu224Val associated with a sensory and a motor distal neuropathy, respectively. The apical domain of both variants was substantially but differently affected by the mutations, although these were in other domains. The distribution of hydrogen bonds and electrostatic potentials on the surfa…

Muscle Histopathological Abnormalities in a Patient With a CCT5 Mutation Predicted to Affect the Apical Domain of the Chaperonin Subunit.

2022

Recognition of diseases associated with mutations of the chaperone system genes, e.g., chaperonopathies, is on the rise. Hereditary and clinical aspects are established, but the impact of the mutation on the chaperone molecule and the mechanisms underpinning the tissue abnormalities are not. Here, histological features of skeletal muscle from a patient with a severe, early onset, distal motor neuropathy, carrying a mutation on the CCT5 subunit (MUT) were examined in comparison with normal muscle (CTR). The MUT muscle was considerably modified; atrophy of fibers and disruption of the tissue architecture were prominent, with many fibers in apoptosis. CCT5 was diversely present in the sarcolem…

A closed form procedure for the design of longitudinal bars in RC sections subjected to axial load and biaxial bending

2020

This paper presents an analytical procedure for the design of the longitudinal reinforcement in reinforced concrete rectangular sections subjected to axial load and biaxial bending moment. The integration of the equilibrium equations is performed in analytical form for the case of uniaxial moment, including the effect of the reinforcement placed on the sides of the section and adopting code-based constitutive laws for steel and concrete. The strength domain of the section is calculated in closed form for the case of only main steel and in simplified form when including the reinforcement disposed on the side. Additionally, a formulation is proposed for the interaction domain of the two compo…
