Lymphatic endothelial progenitors bud from the cardinal vein and intersomitic vessels in mammalian embryos.
2012
Abstract The lymphatic vasculature preserves tissue fluid balance by absorbing fluid and macromolecules and transporting them to the blood vessels for circulation. The stepwise process leading to the formation of the mammalian lymphatic vasculature starts by the expression of the gene Prox1 in a subpopulation of blood endothelial cells (BECs) on the cardinal vein (CV) at approximately E9.5. These Prox1-expressing lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) will exit the CV to form lymph sacs, primitive structures from which the entire lymphatic network is derived. Until now, no conclusive information was available regarding the cellular processes by which these LEC progenitors exit the CV without co…
Towards the observation of Territorial Energy Systems : a geographical design approach for energy territorialisation
2014
Having an effect on a system calls for a thorough knowledge of it. The main goal of this research is toprovide a general framework for the interpretation of geographic information, as well as a methodologicalframework to understand the interrelations between territory and energy in the context of a territorialobservatory. A literature review of energy planning on the one hand and spatial planning on the other revealssimilar developments in the two fields, in particular in terms of decentralisation and environmental concerns. The change of geographical scale chosen for the analysis brings new possibilities for public intervention. Inthis context, therefore, local authorities have a key role t…
Robot Shift from Industrial Production to Social Reproduction
2015
This chapter analyses people’s attitudes towards the use of robots in the different domains of life and, specifically, in the domain of social reproduction. The analysis is based on Eurobarometer 382 “Public Attitudes towards Robots” data (N = 26,751), which was carried out among EU citizens aged 15 and over in 27 member states in 2012. The results of the study show that on average European perceptions of robots are positive and permissive. The life domains in which robots have already been used for a long time (e.g. space exploration, manufacturing, military and security business, search and rescue work) turn out to be the most popular areas for the further penetration of robots. The least…
Standards Initiatives for Software Product Line Engineering and Management within the International Organization for Standardization
2010
Software product line engineering is an established methodology for fast and effective development of software-intensive systems and services. To reap maximum benefits from the methodology, businesses typically need to implement coordinated changes in development methodologies, tools, product architectures, organizational designs, and business models. Product lines are developed in complex international software ecosystems, but there is no coordinated set of international standards for defining and leveraging the methodology. As a result, ecosystems cannot adopt standardized methods and tools for developing product lines, tool vendors face difficulties in developing tools to enable product …
Fractal Grid – towards the future smart grid
2017
International audience; In the last two decades, electricity grids have faced many challenges that they were not designed to handle. These include integrating weather-dependent renewables, distributed generators, storage units and other advanced components, as well as taking into account active demand. These challenges, together with the ageing of infrastructures, make it more difficult to deliver cost-effective, reliable power. To overcome these issues requires creating new network architectures. The research project Fractal Grid proposes fractality as a core concept to model, analyze and design smart grids in their evolution up to 2030 and beyond. This paper presents the project, its meth…
Broken rotor bars detection via Park's vector approach based on ANFIS
2014
Many attempts have been made on fault diagnosis of induction motors based on frequency and time domain analysis of stator current. In this paper, first the Park's vector transformation and frequency analysis for fault detection of induction motors are introduced. Then a smart approach using Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) is proposed. This approach uses the time domain features derived from the Park's vector transformation of stator current. By the proposed method, a partial break including 5 mm crack on a bar, one broken bar and two broken bars using experimental data are investigated. It will be shown that features derived from Park's vector compared to features obtained fro…
S-domain modeling of conducting post in rectangular waveguides by the BI-RME method
2002
This paper describes the application of the Boundary Integral - Resonant Mode Expansion method to the modeling of a conducting post in a rectangular waveguide. The mathematical model of this structure is determined in a very short time, in the form of pole expansion of the Generalized Admittance Matrix in the s-domain. This model is very useful in the CAD of combline or interdigital filters.
Specifying Patterns for Mobile Application Domain Using General Architectural Components
2005
Software companies adopt patterns as a means to improve architecture and design practices. During recent years, the application of patterns has extended from general software applications to specific problem domains. In a new domain, suitable patterns fitting to the essential design problems in the new context need to be identified. In this paper, we introduce a general architectural model of mobile applications, which can be used to identify and organise essential patterns in mobile-application design process. This model is employed to construct a high-level architecture of a particular application. For each component of the architecture, the model may suggest candidate patterns that can b…
Bending-Shear interaction domains for externally prestressed concrete girders
2013
In prestressed concrete structures, the evaluation of the safety level is generally carried out by separating the bending moment strength and the shear force capacity. Actually interaction between bending moment (M) and shear force (V) can have significant consequences on evaluations in service life, especially when the ultimate limit state (ULS) is considered. In this paper, the M-V interaction is addressed for prestressed concrete girders, in the cases of both bonded and unbonded prestressing tendons. It can be demonstrated, by drawing the interaction domains (M-V), that a significant reduction of the safety level has to be considered when shear force is evaluated together with bending mo…
Control Design for Discrete-Time Fuzzy Systems with Disturbance Inputs via Delta Operator Approach
2013
Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/724918 Open Access This paper is concerned with the problem of passive control design for discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with time delay and disturbance input via delta operator approach. The discrete-time passive performance index is established in this paper for the control design problem. By constructing a new type ofLyapunov-Krasovskii function (LKF) in delta domain, and utilizing some fuzzy weighing matrices, a new passive performance condition is proposed for the system under consideration. Based on the condition, a st…
