Interleukin (IL)-6, IL-11 and cililary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) belong to the same family of hematopoietic and neurotrophic cytokines. Their receptor complexes contain a cytokine-binding alpha receptor and the common glycoprotein (gp)130 subunit for signal transduction. The extracellular parts of the alpha-receptor subunits consist of a membrane-proximal cytokine-binding domain and an N-terminal immunoglobulin (Ig)-like domain with unknown function. Sponges (Porifera) are a classical model to study the events during tissue transplantation. Applying the 'insertion technique' autografts from the marine sponge Geodia cydonium fuse within 5 days. In contrast, allografts are rejected and destroyed. Here we show that during allograft rejection the cells in the grafts undergo apoptosis; 5 days after transplantation 46% of the cells show signs of apoptosis. In a previous study it was shown that during this process a tumor necrosis factor-like molecule is induced in allo- and xenografts. In many applications, there are multiple interacting entities, generating time series of data over the space. To describe the relation within the set of data, the underlying topology may be used. In many real applications, not only the signal/data of interest is measured in noise, but it is also contaminated with outliers. Fuel feeding and inhomogeneity of fuel typically cause fluctuations in the circulating fluidized bed (CFB) process. If control systems fail to compensate the fluctuations, the whole plant will suffer from dynamics that is reinforced by the closed-loop controls. Domain separation for efficient adaptive active learning

This paper proposes a procedure aimed at efficiently adapting a classifier trained on a source image to a similar target image. The adaptation is carried out through active queries in the target domain following a strategy particularly designed for the case where class distributions have shifted between the two images. Modulation of base excision repair of 8-oxoguanine by the nucleotide sequence.

8-Oxoguanine (8-oxoG) is a major product of oxidative DNA damage, which induces replication errors and interferes with transcription. By varying the position of single 8-oxoG in a functional gene and manipulating the nucleotide sequence surrounding the lesion, we found that the degree of transcriptional inhibition is independent of the distance from the transcription start or the localization within the transcribed or the non-transcribed DNA strand. The common DNA base modification 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanine (8-oxo-G) affects the efficiency and fidelity of transcription. We constructed plasmid substrates carrying single 8-oxo-G residues, specifically positioned in the transcribed or the non-transcribed DNA strands, to investigate their effects on the expression of an EGFP reporter gene and to explore the role of base excision repair in the mechanism of transcription inhibition. On the relation between present and future tense in Lithuanian: Preliminary considerations in the domain of non-deictic tense use

The article examines non-deictic uses of present and future tense in Lithuanian. Narrative use, in which reference intervals match with singular events, is distinguished from suspended propositions characterized by lack of such reference intervals (habitual, dispositional and circumstantial modal, and conditional meanings). Present tense is frequently involved in both usage domains, while the future is rare in narrative use, but overlaps with present tense in certain types of suspended propositions.
