Oxygen consumption is a quality marker for human oocyte competence conditioned by ovarian stimulation regimens.

2011

Objective To evaluate the effect of different ovarian stimulation protocols on oocyte respiration and to investigate the relationship between oocyte oxygen consumption and reproductive outcome. Design Prospective observational cohort study. Setting Infertility clinic in a university hospital. Patient(s) A total of 349 oocytes from 56 IVF treatment cycles in our oocyte donation program. Intervention(s) None. Main Outcome Measure(s) Average oocyte oxygen consumption rate in fmol/s. We correlated oxygen consumption values with ovarian stimulation features, fertilization, embryo quality on days 2 and 3, and implantation. Result(s) Differences in the measured oxygen consumption rates were found …

Should kidney allografts from old donors be allocated only to old recipients?

2020

Contains fulltext : 226016.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) In several deceased donor kidney allocation systems, organs from elderly donors are allocated primarily to elderly recipients. The Eurotransplant Senior Program (ESP) was implemented in 1999, and since then, especially in Europe, the use of organs from elderly donors has steadily increased. The proportion of ≥60-year-old donors reported to the Collaborative Transplant Study (CTS) by European centers has doubled, from 21% in 2000-2001 to 42% in 2016-2017. Therefore, in the era of organ shortage it is a matter of debate whether kidney organs from elderly donors should only be allocated to elderly recipients or whether <65-y…

The WFH Haemophilia Centre Twinning Programme: 10 years of growth, 1993-2003

2003

The World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) Twinning Programme celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. Twinning is one of several international WFH programmes designed to improve haemophilia care at a global level. There are two types of twinning, and the haemophilia treatment centre twinning programme should be distinguished from the WFH haemophilia organization twinning involving national member organizations. The WFH Haemophilia Treatment Centre Twinning Programme helps emerging haemophilia treatment centres develop partnerships with well-established and experienced centres. Twinning can improve diagnosis and clinical care through coaching, training and transfer of expertise, ultimatel…

Fat and liver transplantation: clinical implications

2018

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), with or without hepatocellular carcinoma, is a growing indication for liver transplantation (LT) worldwide, particularly in the Western world. Patients with NASH typically combine features of metabolic syndrome with cardiovascular comorbidities, which challenge pre-LT evaluation, surgical approaches, post-LT management, and outcomes. Post-LT survival in NASH patients is excellent, similar to that achieved with other indications, particularly in the absence of cardiovascular comorbidities. Although disease recurrence on the liver allograft is common, progression to advanced disease is uncommon, at least in the short term. Whether this holds true with long…

El apoyo social con pacientes de Leucemia

2012

2016

Around the world, as a consequence of the contamination of the blood supply by HIV and Hepatitis C and B in the early 1980s, public and private blood banks have required blood donors to complete a donor health assessment questionnaire to identify various risk factors for sexually transmitted diseases including, for men, the act of having sex with a male partner. In this latter case the policy provides for a permanent or temporary ban on donation. This deferral policy, which aimed to protect recipients of blood and blood products, in recent years has been subject to criticism in so far as this exclusion seems to be an unfair discrimination against gay men on the basis of sexual orientation. …

Natura e caratteristiche del consenso al prelievo di organi e tessuti da cadavere Un raffronto tra Italia ed Inghilterra

2018

The essay deals with the deceased donor organ donations and, in particular, with the nature and the features of the consent which authorizes the removal from the body of a deceased person of any relevant material. The analysis is conducted through the scrutiny of the relationship that exists between the choice about to be or not an organ donor and the social interest to obtain a rapid increase of organ donation. The essay makes a comparison between the Italian and the English legal approaches to the freedom of deciding the allocations of removed organs, with a special regard to directed donations.
