Contributo alla flora critica d'Italia: i generi della famiglia Lycopodiaceae
2012
A taxonomic revision of western Eupholidoptera bush crickets (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae): testing the discrimination power of DNA barcode.
2014
The genus Eupholidoptera includes 46 Mediterranean species distributed from Turkey to Greece, Italy and southern France. In the eastern part of its range, Eupholidoptera has been considered to consist of several distinct species, while in the Balkans and Italian peninsula only E. chabrieri has been recognized. However, the status of some Italian populations, confined to particular geographic areas, remains uncertain. To investigate the delimitation of the Italian taxa of Eupholidoptera, we performed both morphological and molecular analyses. Morphological analysis was carried out by considering diagnostic characters usually used to distinguish different taxa, such as the shape of titillator…
Response to Kruse-Plass et al. (2017) regarding the risk to non-target lepidopteran larvae exposed to pollen from one or more of three Bt maize event…
2017
We respond to the paper of Kruse-Plass et al. (Environ Sci Eur 29:12, 2017), published in this journal, regarding the risk to non-target lepidopteran larvae exposed to pollen from one or more of three Bt maize events (MON810, Bt11 and 1507). We emphasise that what is important for environmental risk assessment is not the number of pollen grains per se, but the degree of exposure of a NT lepidopteran larva to Bt protein contained in maize pollen. The main text of this response deals with general issues which Kruse-Plass et al. have failed to understand; more detailed refutations of each of their claims are given in Additional file 1. Valid environmental risk assessment requires direct measur…
First Data on the Mysid Community in the “Stagnone di Marsala” (Western Sicily)
2001
First data on the spatial and temporal distribution of the mysid community in the “Stagnone di Marsala” (western Sicily) from January to December 1996 are reported. The assemblage consists mainly of five species which are common in the Mediterranean Sea: Diamysis bahirensis (55.2%), Siriella armata (18.6%), S. clausii (15.8%), Mysidopsis gibbosa (9.8%) and Mesopodospis slabberi (0.6%). Population structure is described for each species and the reproductive period inferred. A sharp increase in abundance occurred in the spring, while the minima occurred during autumn-winter. The D. bahirensis dominated from March to October and S. clausii in the winter. A large difference, which was mainly qu…
Defective dopaminergic control of contractility in colon from hypoxanthine‐guanine phosphoribosyltransferase deficient (HPRT‐) knockout mice

Opposite effects of dopamine on the mechanical activity of longitudinal and circular muscles in human colon
2015
Objective: Dopamine (DA) has been proposed to act as a modulator of GI motility, via activation of specific receptors D1- and D2-like receptors widely expressed throughout the length of the gastrointestinal tract, in different animal species. However, little and not clear information are available about DA effect in the human gut. The aims of this study were to elucidate whether dopamine may affect contractility in human colon, the receptor subtypes involved and the possible differences in the function and distribution of dopaminergic receptors between longitudinal and circular muscle. Methods: Mechanical responses to dopamine were examined in vitro as changes in isometric tension in strips…
