Pacienta atsāpināšana pēc ceļa locītavas endoprotezēšanas

2015

Efficient Monolithic Perovskite/Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells

2016

Thin-film solar cells suffer from various types of recombination, of which leakage current usually dominates at lower voltages. Herein, we demonstrate first a three-order reduction of the shunt loss mechanism in planar methylammonium lead iodide perovskite solar cells by replacing the commonly used hole transport layer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) with a better hole-selective polyarylamine. As a result, these cells exhibit superior operation under reduced light conditions, which we demonstrate for the extreme case of moonlight irradiance, at which open-circuit voltages of 530 mV can still be obtained. By the shunt removal we also observe the VOC to dro…

Insertion of Bacteriorhodopsin Helix C Variants into Biological Membranes

2019

A peptide corresponding to bacteriorhodopsin (bR) helix C, later named pHLIP, inserts across lipid bilayers as a monomeric α-helix at acidic pH, but is an unstructured surface-bound monomer at neutral pH. As a result of such pH-responsiveness, pHLIP targets acidic tumors and has been used as a vehicle for imaging and drug-delivery cargoes. To gain insights about the insertion of bR helix C into biological membranes, we replaced two key aspartic residues that control the topological transition from the aqueous phase into a lipid bilayer. Here, we used an in vitro transcription–translation system to study the translocon-mediated insertion of helix C-derived segments into rough microsomes. Our…

HAPPY Dyes as Light Amplification Media in Thin Films

2021

A series of 1Hamorphous tri-phenyl pyridine (HAPPY) dyes have been synthesized from luminescent triphenyl-group-containing 2-methyl-6-styryl-substituted-4H-pyran-4-ylidene derivatives in reactions with benzylamine and investigated for suitability as solution-processable light-emitting medium components in thin films for amplified spontaneous emission (ASE). Conversion of a 4H-pyrane ring into a 1H-pyridine fragment enables aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) behavior in the target products and slightly increases thermal stability, glass transition temperatures, and ASE efficiency with PLQY up to 15% and ASE thresholds as low as 46 μJ/cm2 in neat spin-cast films, although thermal…

Amplified spontaneous emission of glass forming DCM derivatives in PMMA films

2014

4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl- 6-(p-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran ( DCM ) is well known red laser dye which can be used also in solid state organic lasers. The lowest threshold value of amplified spontaneous emission was achieved by doping 2wt% of DCM molecule in tris-(8-hydroxy quinoline) aluminium (Alq

Lentils enhance probiotic growth in yogurt and provide added benefit of antioxidant protection

2013

Abstract We evaluated the antioxidant potential of lentil polysaccharides in stimulating the growth of probiotic bacteria in yogurt. Microbial counts, pH and total titratable acidity (TTA) were measured in yogurt samples containing starter cultures with or without probiotic bacteria, supplemented with whole ground green lentils. Additionally, the antioxidant potential of polysaccharides extracted from green, red, and dehulled red lentils were measured by oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay. Results demonstrate that green lentils selectively enhanced the number of probiotic bacteria in yogurt in the initial stages of storage and maintained overall microbial counts (starter cultur…

Wirkung der Insektizide Allethrin, Lindan und Jacutin-Fogetten-Sublimat auf den photosynthetischen Elektronentransport

1977

Summary During our studies of Hill-reactions of isolated chloroplasts we observed an inhibition of electron transport after an application of the smoke of «Jacutine-Fogetten» in the plant growth chamber. Therefore we tested the influence of the insecticides Lindane (Gammexan), the sublimate formed by the fumigation of «Jacutin Fogetten», and of Allethrin on the photosynthetic electron transport reactions of PS II and PS I. 39 μ M Lindane inhibits the basal, coupled and uncoupled electron transport to ferricyanide of broken chloroplasts isolated from leaves of Pisum sativum up to 35%. A higher inhibitory effect with higher concentrations is limited by the low water solubility of Lindane. On …

Therapeutic use of omega-3 fatty acids in bipolar disorder

2011

Bipolar disorder (BD) is a severe, chronic affective disorder, associated with significant disability, morbidity and premature mortality. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) play several important roles in brain development and functioning. Evidence from animal models of dietary omega-3 (n-3) PUFA deficiency suggest that these fatty acids are relevant to promote brain development and to regulate behavioral and neurochemical aspects related to mood disorders, such as stress responses, depression and aggression, as well as dopaminergic content and function. Preclinical and clinical evidence suggests roles for PUFAs in BD. n-3 PUFAs seem to be an effective adjunctive treatment for unip…

A practical entry to β-aryl-β-alkyl amino alcohols: application to the synthesis of a potent BACE1 inhibitor

2012

The 1,2-addition of alkyl Grignard reagents to readily available N-tert-butanesulfinyl ketimines, bearing an α-silyloxy substituent, proceeds in high yields and excellent diastereocontrol. The utility of the present method was demonstrated by the synthesis, in enantiomerically pure form, of one recently disclosed β-secretase (BACE1) inhibitor.

Influence of the presence of surfactants and humic acid in waters on the indophenol-type reaction method for ammonium determination.

2005

Abstract This work has evaluated the influence of humic acid and/or surfactants in the quantification of ammonium in waters with the indophenol-type reaction method. Thymol has been employed with the colorimetric method for sample ammonium concentrations between 0.25 and 1 mg L −1 . In addition, SPE/diffuse reflectance method has been used for quantification of ammonium at low concentrations (between 0.025 and 0.25 mg L −1 ). Matrix effect owing to humic substances were observed with the colorimetric method when the concentration was equal or higher than 25 mg L −1 . Lower concentrations of humic compounds produced matrix effects with the more sensitive SPE/diffuse reflectance method. Gener…
