Effects of post-extinction l-DOPA administration on the spontaneous recovery and reinstatement of fear in a human fMRI study

Relapse is a pertinent problem in the treatment of anxiety disorders. In the laboratory, relapse is modeled as return of conditioned fear responses after successful fear extinction and is explained by insufficient retrieval and/or expression of the fear-inhibitory extinction memory that is generated during extinction learning. We have shown in mice and humans that return of fear can be prevented by administration of a single dose of the dopamine precursor l-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (l-DOPA) immediately after extinction. Identification of two novel polymorphisms and a rare deletion variant in the human dopamine D4 receptor gene

We report two novel polymorphisms and a rare deletion variant in the human dopaine D4 receptor gene. The two polymorphisms are characterized by single base pair substitutions, namely a G-->C transversion changing codon 11 from GGG (encoding Gly) to CGG (encoding Arg) and a C-->T transition in position -11 upstream from the start codon. The Arg11 variant occurs at a frequency of about 1% and the C-->T transition at a frequency of about 7% in German control subjects (n = 148). Allele frequencies observed in patients suffering from schizophrenia (n = 256) and bipolar affective disorder (n = 99) were similar. Background Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a result of ovarian overexpression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptor 2 (VEGFR2). VEGF/VEGFR2 binding disrupts cellular junctions and increases vascular permeability (VP), a characteristic of OHSS, but enhances angiogenesis, which is a fundamental step in implantation. Glutamate (Glut), acetylcholine (ACh) and dopamine (DA) were iontophoretically applied on cat claustral neurons. Glut did not affect all the neurons; ACh had both excitatory and inhibitory effects, while DA was prevalently inhibitory. An analysis was made of the time-course of excitatory and inhibitory responses on the basis of the mean firing rate variations during and after ACh and DA release. Repetitive DNA sequences represent about half of the human genome. They have a central role in human biology, especially neurobiology, but are notoriously difficult to study. The purpose of this study was to quantify the transcription from repetitive sequences in a progerin-expressing cellular model of neuronal aging. Dopaminergic modulation of low-Mg2+-induced epileptiform activity in the intact hippocampus of the newborn mouse in vitro

To investigate whether epileptiform activity in the immature brain is modulated by dopamine, we examined the effects of dopaminergic agonists and antagonists in an intact in vitro preparation of the isolated corticohippocampal formation of immature (postnatal days 3 and 4) C57/Bl6 mice using field potential recordings from CA3. Epileptiform discharges were induced by a reduction of the extracellular Mg(2+) concentration to 0.2 mM. These experiments revealed that low concentrations of dopamine ( 3 μM dopamine enhanced epileptiform activity.
